Agree with this completely.

Herman really laid out all the reasons why Love needs to be the starting QB in 2023. Gute had a chance last year to set this franchise up for the future. Now it's more like he better do something or we're in for some real hard times.

If it’s Love’s time which it probably should be I wonder how they would handle the backup position?  Go with another young QB or a vet?  To give Love a fair shot and knowing there’s a learning curve, I’d rather not have a vet on the bench that the fans would be calling for if Love had some stumbles.  Thoughts?

Wentz?  He was good before he wasn’t, he should be cheap and be a bit sheepish.  And the fans won’t be clamoring for him.

Something to think about.

I didn’t pay a ton of attention to the Chmura thing,  but I thought I’d heard that the accusations were trumped up.

It was ugly. Whether it was consenual or not she was 17 and he was 31 at the time. If I was that girl's father the law would have been the last of his problems.

Well we better hope Chad Henne becomes available, he has more Super Bowl rings than Aaron Rodgers has ya know

What kind of stats would he put up, though?

Henne would put up insane stats under MLF's offense. He'd take the dump off pass every time. He and Jones might get co-MVP. Watson and Doubs would take pay cuts just to stay on the team.

I’m throwing the “bullshit” flag on the info above. I have it on good account that Tom Brady plays on a discount because he wants his team to be able to sign free agents. No way he made the fifth highest amount of money among QBs in that timeframe.

Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit!!!!!

Good God thanks for letting us all reminisce what a fucking dirtbag Mark Chmura was.  The good news is he and Brent had plenty of other shenanigans in the Fox Valley (allegedly) in the mid 90s.

Etling is the only other QB on the roster, so a vet would be a wise move, IMO.
Their should be plenty to choose from, but even a vet veteran contract will likely have a $10M-$12M buy-in, and cash is tight in Green Bay.

What is Matt Flynn up to these days?

Interesting that this tweet looks only at cash paid after 2019........interesting because Rodgers received $66.9m in cash in 2018.  Pretty convenient.

Unfortunately, the Packers have has some unsavory players in their history.
Even a HoF-level guy like James Lofton.
Another name that come to mind is Mossy Cade.
Brandon Underwood was a shit stain.
Erik Walden and Ahman Green had domestic violence problems.
Don't forget Eugene Robinson. Not necessarily a felonious crime, but every bit as scumbaggy as Chmura.

There have been LOTS of arrests for DUI (including Aaron Jones, believe it or not), drugs (mostly marijuana with some Sizzurp on the side), and general dumbassery. Crimes that are serious, to be sure, but weren't violent.

From @RobDemovsky
Gutekunst on whether he wants Rodgers back: “He’s a great player, but until we have those conversations, I think all options are on the table. We need to have those conversations. We want what's best for the Green Bay Packers, what's best for him so we'll get to that coming up.”
Rob Demovsky
@RobDemovsky
Replying to
Gutekunst said Jordan Love is “absolutely” ready to be a starter and they’ve been in regular communication with him and his agent about what’s happening.

Yes...Spotrac, a site for people who get hard looking at salary cap numbers, has always been in bed with Rodgers

Every team has them.  Some more than others.  Some worse than others.  This sport doesn't really cater to the well adjusted.

Something I noticed from Gute's presser:

- Gutekunst hasn’t spoken with Rodgers at length since end of season.

- Packers have been in regular communication with Love and his agent about what’s happening.

I get it's hard to talk to a guy who's living in a dark hole in the ground, but I found that info from Gute interesting.

Wish there was a function on this board that would allow everyone to see heads explode when AR is NOT traded by draft day and ends up being the Packers’ starting QB for the 2023 season.  It’s going to be delicious!

This column from Frank Deford 35 years ago captures a lot of that well.

I think Paul Hornung would have probably put a lot of these other guys to shame in terms of questionable activities with the ladies.

Love and Rodgers have the same agent so Rodgers could easily be in the loop if he wanted to be.

It would devastate the franchise for the near future. If Gute doesn't move Rodgers he is probably toast in 2-3 years.

Last year Rodgers didn't say if he wanted to come back until like the day before FA. Then as the season ended Rodgers said he won't hold the team "hostage. " I don't expect any announcement until Mar.14th the day before FA.

Or do they just think he's just the best option at this point?

Suspect they view Love as the best option in much the same way as AR was viewed as the best option early in his career. Not much certainty in what they have in Love just as there wasn't in what they had in AR (don't draft Brohm that high otherwise).

If they're keeping Love in the loop and Rodgers hasn't had any conversations, they are trying to placate Love to keep him happy so he doesn't demand a trade. I realize Love is under contract and he doesn't have a lot of leverage, but a) the FO needs to rebuild its image among players as taking care of players and keeping them in the loop, and b) you don't want to set off Love so that he plays to the end of his contract and hits FA because of how he felt over this -- especially if he turns out to be pretty darn good. Gute is probably trying to figure out the best way to dump Rodgers and get something for him rather than flat-out cutting him.

No it doesn't. And some of the mal-adjusted are the result of their tough upbringing in tough places

I remember comments from Ask Vic - and he often talked about WHERE some of these young players come from. He noted that many of them came from brutal backgrounds, poverty and daily shootings.  They did not have certainty in their shelter or even access to steady meals. He went on to talk about how for many of these guys - football practice was the easiest and safest part of their day.

The front office is talking up Love as much as they can. Hoping it will rise his stock when they put him on the trade block. The Raider's 2nd round pick this April will probably do it. I wonder if Adams has had his brain picked about Love from the LVR's brain trust? Love would love playing for the silver and black
