This is also right up Rodgers alley and what he needs. To feel the warm fuzzies and to feel wanted. I honestly believe that is a very big deal to Rodgers. And every bit as important, it's what the Packers are no longer doing.

I imagine some pretty damn expensive Scotch will be drank tonight on the Jet's tab along with whatever other gifts the Jets are going to lay at his feet.

Yup, Gute is going out of his way to treat Aaron like a normal player. Rodgers really hates that.

This is an interesting point, as Gute has said and done lots of things recently that aren't offensive or controversial, unless you're Rodgers.  Letting Cobb/Tonyan/Lewis, etc's contracts void, saying it has to be "the right fit" with a Rodgers return, saying AR would need to redo his contract if he was to return, saying he hasn't talked to AR much but is in constant contact with Love this offseason, etc.  All little things that nobody except Rodgers would take offense to.

I'll go on record and say I WONT trust this till there is a news conference/announcement.  It will feed AR's ego, but until then, Im not getting too excited.

But, I really hope this happened, and that Love emerges as a decent QB.

GO BAKERSFIELD!!

I have seen several NFL peeps say that if the Packers are even letting AR talk to the Jets it means there is already a deal in place.  Now it's just up to whether AR wants to go to the Jets.  The fact that they are flying to CA to meet him says he is certainly interested.  He wouldn't be wasting their time if he wasn't.

That said I wonder if he asks the Jets to bring in Cobb/Tonyan/Lazard/Big Dog, etc as part of the deal.

Maybe he even ups the ante and asks for Kumerow, too.

Do the Jets owners even know how they can structure a deal for Rodgers? The have no meaningful draft capital (13 to our 15) and are already over the cap as it is.

The Packers won't offload him unless they absorb a lot of the cap pain. The Jets will effectively bankrupt themselves for 2-3 years. They are not 1 season away (or 2 or 3 for that matter) from a Super Bowl... especially by offloading picks and cash for Rodgers.

And let's not even get into the Jets extraordinarily deep, talents, and injury free depth chart at O-line and WR.

He didn't say Rodgers would go, he said the compensation in terms if draft picks will be higher the more salary the Packers are willing to eat.

Fair, but anyone who has followed any sport for any amount of time could suss that part out.

The two scenarios are that the Packers would prefer to keep Rodgers as their starter another year, or they prefer to move on. Assuming they prefer to move on... Rodgers doesn't have much incentive to restructure a deal to bring more draft picks back from the Jets. He can just Carr it, why cost his new team draft capital they can spend in ways to help him and his new team? "Hold the Packers hostage" as some call it.

I'm just thinking out loud here. I don't see much incentive for the Packers to mitigate "cap hell" if they're moving on from Rodgers. "Cap hell" just sounds like "draft pick Christmas".... get picks for Rodgers, eat as much of his dead cap as you can... set Love up to fail and hope he finds some level of success that indicates he's worth re-signing, and be in a position that the draft picks are starting to develop into real players and you have money for impact free-agents to fill in the gaps.

The tear-it-down and rebuild strategy always sounds good to me, it's weird how badly some franchises that need not be named tend to screw it up though.

I can eat a 4-12 followed by a 6-10 season no problem right now. Or I could roll with another Rodgers "maybe we can make the wildcard or even the division (because the Vikings went straight back to total suck instead of classic 2000s pull-games-out-of-your ass Bears-mode that they found in 2022)" type season or two followed by the 4-12 and 6-10. Timeline doesn't matter to me. Whether we make a go of it with Jordan Love or the next first round QB doesn't matter to me.

But you're forgetting something - the Jets are idiots.  It's what makes them such an ideal trade partner.  Git 'er done Woody!!!!

I'm a sentimentalist, so seeing this shit go down personally sucks ass for me. Wish Rodgers would retire a Packer so I don't have to see him in another jersey, but that's not reality. Man I hope Love pans out and that he's got the support of the squad.

Montana, Brady, Favre, Payton Manning, Rodgers, and Unitas all played somewhere else beyond their long-time teams. All are clearly within the top 20 QBs of all-time. Phillip Rivers and Warren Moon weren't at that level, but are close and both played out the string with other teams. Russell Wilson is a HOF - look what happened with him.

Brees, Kurt Warner, and Steve Young are all HOFers and all played with multiple teams. Matt Ryan is a former MVP and he got sent packing at the end. Namath probably shouldn't be in the HOF, but he is and ended his career with the Rams.

The exceptions to this as HOF QBs go are Elway, Marino, Bob Griese, Troy Aikman, Jim Kelly, Dan Fouts, and Roger Staubach. That's about it in the modern era. And none of them played after 2000.

The one exception that played after 2000 is Eli Manning. If he's a HOFer, he's the only guy that's played in the last 20 years that is a HOF QB that played for one team.

At this point, the Jets sent their entire "brain trust" out to meet with Rodgers only ups the ante for Saleh and the GM. For them to go out there and basically publicly announce they are, they must already have the trade done. They know what they are giving up.

If that plane comes back without a deal from Rodgers, the Jets leadership looks even more foolish than they already do. It's hard to pivot back from this to go after your next guy.

Peter King essentially said if this thing is going to get done, Rodgers will have to commit to Jets for the next two years...one and done won't work for them. A pretty reasonable ask IMO. JMO.

He's not married. No kids. I don't even think he has a girlfriend at the moment. Very little to pull Aaron towards retirement. And if he stays healthy, no reason to believe he can't put up decent numbers for 2 years.

If the reports are true, and Rodgers does end up with the Jets, why can’t they win or really compete for the AFC East title?

IMO the Bills are closer to being a fringe playoff team than winning the Super Bowl. Allen regressed this past year, they have no running game, and that defense is extremely overrated.

Miami is decent but can Tua stay healthy?  I don’t know.

As for the Patriots, I don’t think they scare anyone.

Now, can a Rodgers QBd Jets team beat the Bengals or Chiefs in the playoffs?    Probably not.   But they can absolutely be in the mix to win that division and get a 3 or 4 seed.   They were in the mix 2/3 of last season with zero QB play.

The Jets are a much better landing spot for Aaron than the Raiders, although, I’d much rather prefer the Raiders #1 than the Jets #1 but beggars can’t be choosers.

A 1 this year, a 2 or 3 next year (maybe conditional) would seem about right.

I've said this before, the Jets OL is a mess and they have little offensive talent.

And that doesn't sound like something the Jets would do?  Just saying.

So the Owner, GM, Head Coach, OC and who knows who else is on the plane.  That to me says it's a done deal.  Too many head honchos there.  Feels more like it's a celebration meeting as opposed to a sales meeting.

Respectfully disagree. I think it's an ALL OUT sales pitch to to give AR12 all the love and attention he thinks he's entitled to. He wants to be courted and deeply wanted to entice him away from Green Bay. Could be rong though.
