You are looking at it from only this offseason, he is looking at it from the last several offseasons.   Probably starting with the Jordan Love draft.    In his mind, and I agree with him, they were looking to move on earlier but the MVP seasons put a monkey wrench in that plan.

And they should have been looking to move on based on his two seasons before Love was drafted. Without looking, I'll bet they were a lot worse than the seasons Favre had before Rodgers was drafted for the same reason. That's the part I don't get. He's seen both sides of the coin up close and personal. To complain about how the Packers let players go is a joke. It's no different than any other team.

The dude would rather live in a dark cave than play for the Packers again? I am sure Gutekunst will be using that argument to bolster his position? Let's see who blinks first. It won't be the Jets.

This forum is so funny.  Heard for weeks that Woody is about to die and will be willing to give up three 1sts to see his team even make the playoffs.  Now the Jets have a chastity belt on and threw away the key cuz there's no way they're getting fucked.

It's pretty simple.  Jets are only a QB away from a run.  They need a QB and don't have one.  Packers only want picks.  If AR retires, nothing changes for the packers season other than not getting picks.  If the Jets don't get AR they're season and window is fucked.

It would be different if Rodgers was threatening to come back to GB or even wanting to, but he said when asked point blank by AJ that he did not want to come back to GB.

The Jets are out of options.  They have little to no leverage.  What’s plan B?  Lamar Jackson?  Good luck with that.

I don’t like this dragging out but I don’t mind them holding the line to get fair compensation.  That’s the Jets 1 this year and a 2 or 3 next year.  I’m sure the Packers are asking for the Jets 1 this year and next.

The Packers have their QB.  The Jets do not.  The Jets have a lot more reasons to make a deal and make it quickly.

They should have shopped him to the whole league and not let the Jets talk to him until they had an agreement in principle in place. Instead, they start negotiating when the player is all in on the Jets? Who does that? Desperate people do that.

Thanks Aaron for the memories. I hated the way Favre left and cheered every time he got hurt. I was happy when he choked in the playoffs against New Orleans. I dont feel that way about Rodgers. I wil cheer for a Rodgers led Jets team any time they play except when/if they play the Packers. The Packers front including Gutey, McCarthy, LaFluer and Thompson really failed the organization  by not giving Aaron the resources to win. Holding onto poor Defensive defensive Coordinators, poor defensive draft choices, and lack of resources on offense including no top TE hurt the Aaron Rodgers led Packers team.  MCarthys offense toward the last few years of his leadership was to call a play that had no chance of working and let Aaron scramble around and make a play. Good Luck Aaron, you were the best I have ever seen play the position. Go win another Super Bowl.

Rodgers just said he will not be coming back to GB no matter what.    So what leverage does GB have?   The deal should have been done before that went public.

Either the deal is done or the Packers just got fucked

He's not coming back to the Packers by the Packers choice. They are moving on. The Jets are in worse shape than the Packers on this one. They have no QB and there is nothing left on the market. Woodie needs to win now. The guy is 78 years old. Do you think he wants to send Wentz or Ryan out on the field as his QB?

A) you have no idea who the Packers shopped him to.  B) Rodgers has all the say in who he gets traded to, not the Packers.

Rodgers wants to go to the Jets.  Now the Packers can rake the Jets over the coals.  The longer it goes on the more leverage the Packers have cuz the Jets are going to want to sign FA's.  Let Woody sweat I say.

Going into the darkness probably sent red flags up for more teams than just the Packers. This guy has baggage. He could retire in the middle of a season.

Let's not forget that in addition to his diva, look-at-me baggage, is his physical decline as a QB.  Even during his MVP seasons, he shit the bed in the playoffs, which is where it really counts as compared to "owning" the Bears.  He looked and played like an old man against SF in his last playoff game, as he did against the Lions with playoffs on the line last year.  Because of what Brady accomplished, people have started to think that 40-year old Qbs are viable.  Not so much.  He was a great Packer, and in his prime might have been the best QB I ever saw, but his condescending, smartest guy in the room act has gotten really old, and his play no longer makes up for it.  Not sure who has the leverage in this deal right now, as there are points to both sides, but at this time, I'd take whatever the Jets are willing to give just to cut all ties with him. And, I will bet the young receivers on the Packers will play a lot freer and with more confidence working with Love instead of worrying about entering the circle of mistrust.

As others have pointed, the Jets have no plan B. They also signed a WR we all know they would not have in Lazard if not for #12. Money has been spent. Pieces are in place.

I agree with most of your post...except for wishing AR well and cheering for him.  I hope he fails miserably and wish the same for Saleh since his defenses squashed the Packers in both SF and NY.  Can't help it....Sicilian blood calls for vengeance.

I think the whole situation has shown what the difference is between Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. They basically did the same thing when they decided to move to a new team - require that team to sign other guys as part of the deal.

Tom Brady insists on the Bucs trading for the best TE of all time who was 31 years old. Rodgers requests a 39 year old TE who caught 6 passes in almost 500 offensive snaps last year.

Tom Brady wanted Leonard Fornette and Antonio Brown. Rodgers wants Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard. I guess he wants OBJ too, but no wonder Brady was more successful with his new team than Rodgers is going to be.

Gutekunst is playing this very well. Gave AR / Jets permission to talk. They become enamored with each other. Reports are Jets FO feel really good after they meet with AR. AR comes out today and says he 's known since Friday that he wants to play, and wants to play for the Jets.

Rodgers contractually tied to the Packers. If the Jets want Rodgers and Rodgers wants the Jets (and Rodgers won't play for GB again), advantage Packers.

Hold firm to your asking price. If AR wants to retire, fine. He won't be coming back to GB like Favre did... he said he won't play for GB again.

He did not say a word about any of the current Jet players.    They gave him a chance while bringing up Wilson and Hall.  No sauce shout out.  I think he blew a good feel good PR opportunity coming to a new team.

Jets have a lot of talent on both sides.   They have not had a QB.  Maybe Rodgers locks in on Lazard still who knows.  There are plenty of new shiny toys on the jets O if he doesn't.  Not sure the old dog will change though

Rodgers said other  teams showed interest so I'm sure the Packers talked to them. If this deal falls through the Packers have other options, the Jets do not. If it turns into a fire sale even a team like the Niners become a player.

Aaron Wilson's tweet seems 3rd-hand news, at best, taken at face value.
I'll also say even if it happens to be true, it's missing context.
Who contacted whom? ARod calling a guy is one thing, a guy calling Rodgers is another.

I'll file this with the others in the "meh" file until there is an official announcement from the Packers.

Rodgers just wants his friends. Brady wanted good players, one who just happened to be a friend.

A "couple"of thoughts...

-I'm preferring to get all of my follow-up info on X4 vs going to media outlets now. This feels like a family event and I prefer to be around my "family".

-I'd be lying if I said this day doesn't make me bummed out because I totally am, but I agree 130% with the Brandt comments in that it was time for both parties to move on. It's blows, but that's life.

-Sounded to me truly like both sides were ready to move on AFTER this season. I'm sure if AR had another MVP year that wouldn't have been the case, but to me someone had to be the bad guy and I'm glad it's being portrayed as it was the team's decision.

- I have no idea who truly had the "upper hand" in negotiations, but time will tell who got the better of the deal regardless.

-Lastly, for those of you who want Rodgers to expose the FO some more on the way out I don't think you can have it both ways. With Rodgers seemingly outward and frank personality and comments also comes some selfishness and diva. You can have a toe the line, robot-type player, but they rarely move the dial.

Been through many contract negotiations in my line of work, including 1st chair several times, so know a little bit about leverage and how it works in trying to reach agreement.

The Jets made some blunders by showing their hand too early 1) by hiring Hackett 2) making a public spectacle out of the visit to Cali with no framework deal in place and 3) not at least mentioning or selling some interest in Carr or Jimmy G.

It was clear weeks ago that Rodgers was their one and only target.

Not to mention GB already has their QB and they have time on their side!   And many GBP fans are ready to move on.

The Packers clearly have more leverage in this situation because they don’t have to run for the door to force a decision.   The Jets do because Rodgers needs to get acclimated with a new city and new team and new players and the fan pressure and organizational angst will ramp up every day that this drags on.

Rodgers also made a huge blunder today by saying he wouldn’t return to GB but retire.  Again, that helps the Packers position big time.

The people like Brandt or other proven FO people know this.  GB holds most if not all the cards right now.

Again, I’m not sure what point of reference or experience media types like Connor Hughes have in these matters.

Rodgers appearance on McAfee actually helped the Packers and hurt the Jets.  As usual, he made it personal and lesson 1 when it comes to high stakes negotiations the minute you get emotional you are already at a big disadvantage.

GB doesn’t have to acquiesce to anyone, including Rodgers or the media.

Now, I do think a deal needs to be completed prior to the draft but again, if you are the Packers there’s no rush before then.

Well he just said he isn't coming back to GB no matter what.   So GB has zero leverage.   Fucking morons should have made the deal already.

Green Bay has zero leverage???? They are currently holding all the cards.

Jordan love will be the starting quarterback in September. Rodgers can either play for the Jets or retire The Packers don't need to do anything except wait for the Jets to cave to their demands
