I think Rodgers will play well next year with the Jets. Would not surprise me one bit if he shows up for OTA's, he does some workout routine where he will announce he's in the best shape of his career and he opened up that giant chip on his shoulder to motivate him. And you know what? It's worked almost every time.

I could also easily see him playing another full 3 years in the NFL. I just don't think with all the attention he receives being a face of the NFL and everything that comes with it, he'd want to just walk away from that. It feeds his ego perfectly.

And I am sure when it comes to draft compensation that is precisely what Gute is telling his pal Joe in NY

Found on the Internet:

Rodgers didn't flub the onside kick in Seattle. Or he wasn't the coach who should have gone for two in Arizona. Or he wasn't the GM who made lousy draft picks when he himself was fading. And he certainly wasn't the CB who gave up an easy TD and a holding call in the Tampa Bay game. And he certainly wasn't the front office who squandered a decade of his greatness.

He was the guy who threw the hail mary to win the game in Detroit. He was the guy who owned the Bears. He was the guy who torched the Giants in a playoff game. And he was the guy that just couldn't get it done the last few years. And he became the guy whose personality no longer matched well with the fans.

I was all in for him last year. But he wasn't. Lazard said as much when he noted that the timing had to develop during the season. Timing and such is developed during the OTA's. Lafleur should have fired Barry for his lax defense. That story is still to unfold.

Sometimes in life a person needs a change. Rodgers and the Packers are in that position. Time to move on. It is as simple as that. Good fortune for Rodgers and go Pack.

I love Rodgers but in his McAfee interview you could tell he was pissed off. He would say all the right things like he has all the love and he wasn't bitter but you could tell the dude was bitter. He could also go full meltdown on the organization if he does not get his way soon. It could get worse than Favre which was epic chaos for a while. Favre was discreet when he was pissed off. Rodgers wears his "people wronged him" like a badge of honor.

Let him! If the Jets don't cough up that #1 let him rot on the bench.

Can someone explain why "some" people think the Jets have the leverage?  All I see is that the sunk cost of the contract means Packers have no incentive to move him except for what they can get.  If this is right, it means it costs them less to keep him on the roster and tell him to not show up (although I assume there is more money next year they are obligated for).

I loved AR as a Packer in spite of all the drama and am sad he isn't going to be back next year.  Personally, my view was they should fix the defense (coach) and give him a couple more weapons, but it appears the Packers leadership are convinced the future is now, but I don't think they owe him any more (e.g. $200m/4 yrs) and especially not the Jets by gifting him to them.

The Jets have no leverage. People seem to think the Packers are backed into a corner with the Jets being the only option. A trade and retirement affect the Packers with the same cap hit. Since Rodgers, not the Packers, said he won't return to GB the cap hit will be $40 mil which ever way it goes. Rodgers also claimed he won't retire which leaves him, and the Jets, with only one option. Since the cap hit will be the same why would the Packers take insufficient compensation that's unlikely to help the team? The outcome of this trade will have a much greater bearing on the Jets immediate future than the Packers since the Packers have moved on. It is the Jets who are trying to improve a 7-10 team into a SB contender.

Lawncare Jesus is a pit pricey for my means.

I've heard tho that BK demands a tightly trimmed bush.

i have a residential lot that is 140 x 140. tons of landscaping, palm trees, etc. My guys charge me $120 per month and the crew is done in 20 minutes. They come every week from March through October and twice a month during the winter months. That is the best money I have ever spent. It would take me 3-4 hours every week. In the heat. F That. BK is smurt....

My thought has been the Packers will end up with #13, maybe sending their compensatory #5 in return, and conditional pick(s) next year and poss following years he plays. I’ve also thought the trade may hinge on the trade being official after June 1st for cap accounting. There’s a decent chance compensation is basically agreed upon but the hang up is when it becomes official.

$55/cut. I only have him do it once a year though.

LOL, my wife in her 20s and 30s was as pretty or prettier than any blonde in Florida. Our first date we went to Pleasure Island at Disney and the comments from some of the staff were we were the best looking couple there. So yea. But as every one does, we got old old. She tells me now every now and then that she is not as pretty as she was in those years. I look at her and always refer to the Chicken George line from the series Roots when he sees his wife after being away from her for many years and she says the same thing and he responds,  "I sees ya wit my heart"

They say that to every couple.

Lazard all but confirms Rodgers was defacto GM and head coach.

"He really put his arm around me and he's a big reason why I'm here today," he said. "I can't deny that. He stood up on a table for me during training camp when I probably didn't deserve to make the roster -- at least in the front office's eyes. He called for me to be in the game he relied on me and in a lot of heavy-pressure situations and always believed in me."

Rodgers is weird. You can end the statement there.

But Rodgers is specifically weird when it comes to who he wants on the roster for a guy who wants to throw the ball all the time. Lazard is one of the best run blocking WRs in the game and one of the slowest WRs out there.  M. Lewis is essentially a glorified extra offensive tackle for the last 5 years of his career. Jake Kumerow runs about a 4.6 40. Randall Cobb hasn't been able to separate from anyone in years.

Why doesn't he stand on a table for them to keep guys that can actually separate from DBs? Christian Watson and MVS change defensive schemes a lot more than the guys he gets obsessed with, even if they drop some passes. That's what he has every right to complain about the Packers not prioritizing. However, maybe the FO was stuck keeping these "just another guy" or worse WR/TEs because that's what Rodgers threw a fit about.

Instead, other than D. Adams, he throws his weight around for guys that can be covered one on one by safeties or even fast LBs.
