Earlier I said that after the trade was completed we'd see negative stories coming out about Rodgers. It looks like we won't have to wait.

FO hands were tied from airing this stuff publicly...right or wrong, the burden on them is to "take the high road." If nothing else, they want to preserve as much as possible the illusion 12 isn't disgruntled so as not to hurt negotiations with other teams.

12 chose to air his dirty laundry publicly, and really the trade partners are limited anyway. The only place he was ever going was where Hackett landed...because Hackett is going to tolerate his shit more than some brand new OC who has never worked with him.

Right now the options are he retires, plays for the Jets or plays for the Packers. Two of those are not happening. Glad Gutey came out and cleared up that a first rounder wasn't what was stopping this deal, but he also clarified they want fair compensation. Two first rounders in lieu of one first rounder seems like a reasonable compromise.

The Jets and 12 are the ones stoking this fire that "just let us take him off your hands, you don't want him, he doesn't want to be there, you don't want his salary, let US help YOU!" Yesterday Gutey's response I felt was more directly to the Jets than to 12...letting them know they will wait as long as necessary to get fair compensation.

Where did I say it would be this years picks?

If this isn't the situation, what is the hold up?   Why would the Jets not be pursuing a plan B if negotiations have stalled for this long?

The consensus here seems to be that the Packers are holding out for more.   Why would the Jets come out and say we have no other plan if that is the case?

True, you did not say it was this years picks. Bad inference on my part. And I do agree with the consensus. I am glad that Gutie is trying to get the best out of a tough situation.

From what I read, IF Rodgers gets traded after June 1, the dead cap hit is $15.8 million. If Rodgers gets traded before June 1, that number is $40.3 million. The Packers have $24.5 million reasons to wait. (Of course I have been reminded that the Cap is an illusion)

I think we will find out more and more that Rodgers wasn't as invested going into 2022 as the Packers thought he would be. No show at OTA's, and yes optics matter, is likely where it all started. Though from the CBS story, maybe the no show at meetings with MLF were a thing before '22 as well.

When you are paying him to be the highest paid player in the NFL and he's the face of your franchise, effort, optics and attitude are a very big deal. It sets the tone for the team and in the locker room. I just don't think it took Rodgers ghosting the Packers for them to realize it was time to move on. The signs were likely there long before that.

Rodgers is a liar and a shitty leader. We’ve heard the stories already but chose to ignore them because they were β€œinconvenient β€œ. But, do any of the great leaders in this game have their Greg Jennings or Jermichael Finley? Donald Driver, as genteel a former Packer as you can find had this to say about him:

β€œWe’ve always said that the quarterback is the one that needs to take the pressure off everyone else. If a guy runs the wrong route, it’s easy for the quarterback to say, β€˜Hey, I told him to run that route’ than for the guy to be like, β€˜Well, I ran the wrong route.’ Sometimes you ask Aaron to take the pressure off the guys so we won’t look bad, but he didn’t want to do that. He felt like if you did something bad, you do it. But I think that’s the difference. You want that leadership, and I think sometimes you may not feel like you got it.β€œ

If not before then, the 2020 pre-draft "I don't wanna play with you guys anymore" certainly turned the worm.

Wasn't this in 2021 when he demanded a trade prior to the draft?  And the rumors were the teams he wanted to be traded to where the 9ers, Broncos or Raiders?

The last two are quite interesting given Hackett to the Broncos and Davante to the Raiders the next year.  There's part of me that thinks so much of the NFL is kinda planned way in advance, and we only hear about it when it finally happens.

Gute sucks.

Here's a cool metric I found at OTC - its  called "Contract Utilization Index"

Its a surrogate for " Is your GM doing his job well ? "

https://overthecap.com/contract-utilization

"Teams with a high CUI generally are healthy and are rewarding their most expensive players with significant playtime. Teams with a low CUI are often faced with significant injuries combined with bad contract decisions that see expensive players riding the bench. While the CUI doesn’t specifically tell us how good or bad a player is (bad players with big contracts often get playtime despite their lack of production) it can help better identify how well a team has been constructed and how they are approaching a season with their playtime allocations."

Note: The Mighty Green Bay Packers were # 2 in the league, sandwiched between the SB participants KC / Philly

Packers need to dump this cancer asap. Do you all still think GB holds all the leverage? Yikes. Most of the fan base has turned on this DIVA so launch him into the sun for a 5th round draft pick. This guy lost at home against the Lions for a chance to get into the playoffs. He isn't worth a 1st rounder IMO.

hey ShitHead, we dont care what you and your ilk think. You are just holding your breath hoping Jordan Love does not look all-world this year. I am pretty sure you were screaming for the Packers to dump Favre at the end hoping AR was going to suck. Sucked for you it got worse. And if the stars align, it may suck for you again. Now F Off.

Guessing it’s to taper expectations for anyone thinking he’ll slide right in and the offense won’t skip a beat.

Good of MLF to use that as a shield for his young protege. That's MLF stepping up as the HC

Unfortunately, the media will make this into a Love vs Rodgers stats debate each week of the 2023 season and twice on Sundays
