Gutekunst speaks - worth a listen

If this isn't the situation, what is the hold up?   Why would the Jets not be pursuing a plan B if negotiations have stalled for this long ?

Teams spend months and months negotiating these contracts, some are 70+ pages long. And that's with 1 team and 1 QB, add another team and there's a lot of back and forth. Testosterone too. Glad they put a muzzle on Murphy tho

Both parties know they are headed toward consummation, but the Jets need a little foreplay and the Packers are playing hard-to-get.

Its been quite the dance so far.

Neither party wanted to be the one to break up, until they broke up and now they both want credit for being the one who called it off.

You can tell Gute is alternating between super agitated and holding back under the bright lights

And did Gute just say they tried to talk to AR this offseason about his future in GB and couldn't get a response?  JFC.

I think AR knew they were moving on, so he avoided taking the call
Didn't Costanza keep a job that way, by hiding out ?

Yep. Which once again leads you to believe AR was full of shit on MaCafee 12 days ago regarding GB’s communication towards him. Or at the very least, left out important facts like oh, I left the Packers on read and never returned their calls.

It’s blatantly clear this relationship is done and everyone just needs to move on.

Yah, he is #1 in #2. Sounds like a plumber joke.

I see that on a plumbers truck here on a regular basis, Makes me laugh every time. We are "#1 in the #2 business" that is.

Uh oh. You know what this means. AR is traded to the jets for nothing, AR goes full Favre mode and the works his way to Minnesota,  Chicago or Detroit to get revenge. So let it be said, so let it be done.

Yup.  Doesn't surprise me.  Gute also said that when he finally was able to get a hold of his agent, he was told Aaron wanted to be traded to the Jets.  But Aaron ghosted him.

My guess is Aaron knew this was his last season in GB well before the season was over (which is why he kept playing with a broken thumb), and once the season was over he was done with Gute for good.  Gute probably wanted to talk to him about trade, retirement, etc, but AR seems to hold a grudge like no other so it doesn't surprise me he never responded to him.

There is some speculation the real holdup is Rodgers trying to renegotiate a deal with the Jets. I think if he plays in 2024 he gets 32 million. I'm sure he wants more than that.

After listening to the Gute interview I think there will be a lot of Rodgers stories swirling around after the trade is finalized. I have a feeling plenty of nice has been being said about Rodgers that really isn't the case. If he's that disrespectful to the FO you can bet other people felt that as well.

I'm curious how that evolves. My guess is that he wanted to become a Jet when Hackett got hired and never felt that way prior to that. To me, that's not enough reason to make a move like that. There are other factors to consider. Ghosting the FO is one thing but going on McAfee and claiming the Packers went behind his back really makes Rodgers look unprofessional.

Fake news.  Aaron Rodgers is all duckies and bunnies.  He’s cured cancer and figured out a way to solve the energy crisis and brokered a peace accord between Russia and Ukraine.

Sincerely, the “pro Rodgers crowd”

Go Gute go

@mattschneidman:  Brian Gutekunst on Aaron Rodgers: "Certainly whenever a player may have issues, you prefer that they talk to you directly and not do it in the media, but that's not necessarily the way he goes about it and that's OK."

He doesn’t leave out important facts. He told everybody he was immunized.

If I’m the Packers and it’s true they aren’t asking for a 1, then it’s the Jets dragging their feet.  So give them a deadline.

Given the way things are transpiring with Rodgers and the Jets you could pull the plug and bench his ass ala Jimmy G or Derek Carr.  And let the Jets fan base revolt.  Karma is a biatch as Gute is the only one that’s sounding and acting like a functioning adult.  Rodgers is the 16 year old that wasn’t asked to the prom.

This just in: Jet fans are revolting.

The trade is currently orbiting a deal that would swap Rodgers for two high draft picks, according to multiple sources who spoke with Yahoo Sports. The sources characterized a deal as getting “closer” despite stiff negotiation over how those picks would stack up and whether the package would include “give back” protection for the Jets if Rodgers does not play beyond the 2023 season.

As it stands, talks are focused on the Jets dealing two picks for the Packers quarterback — one second-round pick in next month's NFL Draft, and another second-rounder in 2024 that could graduate to a first-round pick with “achievable” team performance escalators. An example of such an escalator would be if the Jets were to host a home divisional playoff game or advance to the AFC championship game. A sticking point in the talks is the Jets seeking an element of protection built into the trade, specifically one that sends some 2025 draft compensation to New York from Green Bay if Rodgers does not play in 2024 and beyond. - Charles Robinson of Yahoo

So based on the Yahoo story what the deal is:

- 2023 2nd

- 2024 2nd that can turn into a 1st

The hold up is the Jets demanding:

- Packers give up picks in 2025 if Rodgers doesn't play in 2024

I think Gute is right to dig his heals in here.  Whether Rodgers plays in 2024 is not the Packers problem.

Does "give back" protection include some form of higher pick on the front end? I could understand a graduated pick based on performance or postseason team success. But why should GB give the Jets any type of assurance that they themselves never even had in 18 years? Not to mention particularly in the last 3 years. If a deal is done and Rodgers tears his ACL in week 1, does GB have to pay for his surgery and rehab as well? Do they want Gute to promise that the NY media will lay off Aaron if the Jets suck, too? If that's really a sticking point, how realistic is this negotiation?

Less than half of the haul they would have gotten last year, if accurate.

Gute sucks.

Of the three headed monster I would say Gute would be the one that would have been in favor of trading Rodgers to Denver. He drafted Love and became Rodgers enemy on that day.
