My guess is that Bak frequently tells AR he's being a dickhead, but AR thinks he's just kidding around.

I have "close" friends who I cannot tell them that they are being a "dickhead" or if I do, it doesn't register.  I know people may think you aren't really "close" to someone if they don't listen to you or you don't feel free to speak your mind to them, but I disagree.

I agree that from at least their public persona, Bak and A.J. (don't see much of Cobb in public) would seem like the most stable people around him, but it would not surprise me that they wouldn't say anything to him.

I think you're probably right here - it rarely registers for the people who need to hear it most

And we each come at it from our own perspective. Let's say you're a sniveling little shit like schefturd - from your view AR is a dbag. But if you're Bak - you aren't interested in breaking news; just in having fun with your friend. So he wouldn't be as likely to say something because he doesn't feel that way about Aaron.

I'm sure they both act as sounding boards for each other from time to time

It depends on what the Packers want in compensation up front. They can maximize that with a claw back provision, take less in a one-shot trade, or gamble with conditional picks for an outside shot at the best compensation.

The reported deal is the Packers would get a #2 pick in 2023 (43) and 2024, the 2024 pick becomes a #1  depending how the Jets do as a team. If Rodgers doesn't play in 2024 the Packers give the Jets back draft pick(s) and you can bet it wont be a 7th rounder. If the Packers essentially give back the 2024 pick because Rodgers doesn't play is one 2nd round pick fair compensation for Rodgers in 2023? It sounds a little light to me.

kudos to these guys for staying out of the fray

"...Robert Saleh and Matt LaFleur are best friends. LaFleur was the best man at Saleh’s wedding. Now they are both NFL head coaches β€” and their teams are embroiled in a negotiation for one of the best (and most controversial) quarterbacks in league history.

That must make things awkward, right?

Not quite. Saleh and LaFleur were in Arizona for the NFL owners’ meetings this week, and both insisted that when they talk, Aaron Rodgers never comes up. Just life.

So if anyone was hoping their friendship might speed things along, it won’t. Neither coach had any interest in divulging information or opinions about where the Jets and Packers were in trade negotiations "

More on the trade parameters - Corey Davis

....If WR Corey Davis isn’t traded to the Packers and the Jets don’t sign Beckham, Davis will likely stick around. Saleh is high on him, and Downing coached him in Tennesee, too. He’s a valuable run blocker, a leader and, when healthy, a quality wide receiver.

How he fits into an offense that just added Allen Lazard β€” arguably a better version of Davis β€” and Mecole Hardman to Garrett Wilson and Denzel Mims is less clear, but the Jets like him enough that it wouldn’t be the worst idea to try to make it work.

Latest:

The Packers still believe Rodgers is a premier player and are attempting to get maximum compensation in return, even if a first-round pick in 2023 isn’t involved. It’s looking more and more likely that a second-round pick in 2023 and conditional picks in 2024 and even 2025 will be involved in the final deal.

I'd take that in a heartbeat especially if the Jets don't put a hook in it for conditional returned picks.

A well thought out deception of the truth.

β€œI’d been ready the entire time for this question, and had thought about how I wanted to answer it,” Rodgers told Rogan, via USA Today’s Steve Gardner. β€œAnd I had come to the conclusion I’m gonna say, β€˜I’ve been immunized.’ And if there’s a follow-up, then talk about my process.”

β€œBut, [I] thought there’s a possibility that I say β€˜I’m immunized,’ maybe they understand what that means, maybe they don’t. Maybe they follow up. They didn’t follow up. So then I go the season them thinking, some of them, that I was vaccinated.”

Kinda like if your spouse asked you if you were cheating and you said, I didn't sleep with anyone and if there is a follow up then talk about my process.

I'm not sure it really matters. If Love goes down for 2 or 3 games we probably won't be in a meaningful situation to try to win a game or 2 for that wildcard spot. If Love goes down for multiple months it really doesn't matter. Maybe we draft a guy in the 3rd, since we don't use that round anyway, to learn the professional QB game, and we can have a solid backup for a few years behind Love. Maybe.

It's pretty slim pickin's at this point. I agree, it doesn't really matter if Love goes down as we probably won't be in a position to compete for a playoff spot. So, you need a guy who is more willing to help Love than compete with him at this point. You also need a guy who knows he's not a starter (either never was or won't be again) so he's willing to hold a clipboard. Bring back Benkert? He knows he's not a starter in this league, and while he may be young, he has some experience -- and the tweets would be epic!

Here's Warren Sharp with an article on The Myth of the Rookie QB deal

https://www.foxsports.com/stor...acksons-case-for-him

There have been just five quarterbacks to win the Super Bowl since 2014:

Patrick Mahomes , Matthew Stafford, Tom Brady , Nick Foles and Peyton Manning.

What do the last four have in common?

They were acquired. They won the Super Bowl for a team that didn’t draft them. Three of those four won the Super Bowl the very first year they were acquired.

Ipso facto - I think the J-E-T-S need to give up more for Rodgers

As we've discussed, I think Rodgers biggest problem the last few years is that he doesn't have anyone around him that's a "real" friend to tell him when he's being an idiot or a douchebag. For many of us, that's our spouse, a sibling, or a parent. He doesn't talk to any family members and he doesn't seem to have a lot of close friends.

Donald Driver saw this coming. Driver gave him advice never to forget where he came from, because they are the ones who helped him succeed. It seems that fell on deaf ears.

They should have every young NFL player record a video to themselves when they first come into the league. Then when they get old & jaded, you could replay that video for them, reminding them of how / why they got there.

Here's a good- bye to AR from La Fleur and Bill Huber at SI

https://www.si.com/nfl/packers...-good-bye-to-rodgers

"...the Green Bay Packers as we know them would not exist without Aaron Rodgers’ prolonged excellence"

β€œListen,” LaFleur told reporters at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix. β€œI’m just going to throw it out there right away: First of all, I’ve got nothing but love and appreciation for what Aaron has done for so many in our organization. Obviously, have experienced a lot of great times together, won a lot of football games together. Ultimately, didn’t bring home a Super Bowl, which will always be disappointing.”

Then, LaFleur hit on the crux of the matter.

β€œHe’s done so much for myself, my family, our coaches’ families, so many people within the organization, other players,” LaFleur continued. β€œA lot of people have been rewarded, quite frankly, because of his ability to go out there and play and play at such a high level.”

32:10 Rodgers discussion starts

34:00 former GM Randy Meuller makes a good point about why some GMs may prefer not getting involved with conditional picks. Once a trade is made with conditional picks attached none of those picks can be traded until one of the conditions is met and completes the trade (if a 2024 4th can escalate to 3rd, 2nd, or 1st none of those picks can be traded until one of the conditions are met). If an opportunity to aquire a player during the 2023 season becomes available the GM's hands are essentially tied.
