I've had more fun at pro golf tournaments than any other pro sport.

I went to the PGA at Whistling Straits in 2004 and Medina in 2006. It was the best sporting event I've ever been to in terms of how close you can get to the athletes.

Medina in particular was great because the 1st hole, 2nd tee, 17th green, and and 18th hole are all on one side of big lake. All the corporate tents for the big-money sponsors are there, and the guys with the big pockets stay on that side. The other 14 holes are on the other side of the lake and even on a Sunday in a major won by Tiger Woods, it was relatively sparse. We followed Tiger's group for about 4 holes on Sunday and you could hear the entire conversation between Stevie Williams and him. There were a few hundred following Tiger's group. We followed Steve Stricker there on a Saturday. Even though Stricker finished top 10, there were less than a couple of dozen people following him. He'd make eye contact with the gallery after a hole and thank them for the support.

Best time I had was the U.S. Open at Hazeltine.  My nephew's buddy is a pro so  he ended up with some gig of checking tickets at booths or something?  We basically rolled around the course sitting in on a lot of different pairings (and every VIP setup).  I wish I could remember half the conversations on the tee.

Side note, I always like watching Vijay Singh but met him on a driving range in Jacksonville.  Total ass.

Holy shit I'm old.

We talking golf?

So fun and weird at same time.

Worked with a pretty well known labor attorney back in 2016.   Was travelling all over the place but he hooked us up with tickets to the US Open event in ATL in late September.

Think Fed Ex was sponsoring the event at East Lake GC but long story short we interacted with Rory McIlroy face to face and he won that whole damn thing with a purse well over 10M.  Just bananas.

Outside of my numerous track and basketball exploits growing up I played a lot of golf in up through and past HS.  Had I applied myself better I coulda been a contender but have played Kohler and WS many times.

My ex wife’s family have a house in Pebble Beach and I was fortunate enough to watch Tiger win his first US Open in 2000. I was never much of a Tiger fan but it was still pretty amazing.

We were there for the 2010 US Open too, but my all time favorite golf fan highlight….a few days before the 2010 Open began my father in law found out that Phil Mickelson was playing a round at a private course close to Pebble. My father in law was a member of that club so he called the pro shop to see if we could watch Phil tee off.

We showed up that morning and ended up walking the whole course with Phil, his caddie and the club member he was playing with. We followed about ten yards back for the entire round.  It was amazing! I believe it was Phil’s birthday.  He sunk a 25 foot birdie putt on the 15th green with the Goodyear Blimp flying over us.

Afterwards, we met Phil.  Really nice guy.  I’ve been a fan ever since.

and then there’s this:

At the Waste Management Phoenix open, fans yelled at Aaron Rodgers “COME TO DENVER!” Rodgers responded, “we’ll see.”

The rumors surrounding the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers don’t appear likely to end anytime soon.

The Green Bay Packers are doing what they can to quash any talk of trading quarterback Aaron Rodgers. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the Packers are steadfast in their desire to keep their franchise quarterback next year.

Dang, Henry! I was there as well! I went as a reporter who didn't have to report on anything, so I just went to have fun, great parking, and access to the press tent. Great fun! (And yes, we are getting old...  )

Was I banned?  While I consider myself hardy, even I don't feel like playing golf inside Satan's asshole that is the Upper Midwest in winter.

You should choose your words more carefully.  I feel bullied if not uncomfortable.

Are there laws for being made to feel uncomfortable yet?

They're coming.

LOL BK

Best HS story I had I ran track.  Was a white dude but had Jeff Janis like speed so the football coach took notice.

He approached me about being primary kick and punt return guy.  At that time, was 5’11 170 maybe?

I asked him what it’s like getting drilled by dudes 20-40 pounds heavier and he simply said -  “with your wheels it shouldn’t matter.  They have to catch you first”

He was a very successful HS coach but his special teams instincts were slightly better than Mo Drayton

Aaron Rodgers is the fifth player in NFL history to win consecutive MVP awards. Jim Brown, Joe Montana, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning are the others.

Rodgers stands alone in second place all-time with four MVP awards, one behind Manning’s five.

If he stays with the Packers he’s got at least one more MVP season in him.

The fearless quarterback wins in January (and February)

Analysis by Ty Dunne of the quarterbacks in the SB and Aaron Rodgers. Dunne reaches a conclusion I've heard before- AR is simply too risk-averse.

Attempting 531 passes in a season while throwing only four picks is impressive, as Rodgers did in 2021, but how many plays did he leave on the table? How many times did he fail to give someone a chance? I thought Bob McGinn put it perfectly. This Packers offense was “more efficient than explosive.” That’s on the MVP quarterback.

Stafford threw an NFL-high 17 interceptions with four pick-sixes. Not good!

Burrow was sacked an NFL-high 51 times and threw 14 picks himself. Not good!

But guess what? Both were unbothered.
