I actually think Gute has handled this thing extremely well.   Rodgers could have handled things better than he has but instead decided to make it personal going back to last offseason.

I’ll be fine if he does come back but honestly I think he’s pissed off a lot of Packers fans.  I can’t imagine he will want to deal with that in GB.

and he IS the most hated player in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers wins MVPs. He sets records. He sells insurance.

He’s also hated.

A semi-scientific Twitter study conducted by BetOnline showed that the Green Bay Packers’ star quarterback is the most hated person associated with the NFL.

This conclusion was derived after more than a million tweets were analyzed by keyword association. Negative phrases such as β€œI hate Aaron Rodgers,” β€œAntonio Brown sucks,” β€œF**ck Roger Goodell,” β€œCam Newton is horrible,” and so on were included in a study conducted in December. (January and February were not included so the findings wouldn't be swayed by the playoff participants.)

Speaking of King, per Ken Ingillis, it actually saves GB 1 mil on the cap to bring Kevin King back vs releasing him.

So do not be surprised to see King back. Thinking in the most "glass is half full" optimism as you can, King does not shy from tackling and could be a decent ST's veteran. Maybe a poor mans Jarrett Bush.

And if he's mainly regulated to ST's, maybe he can last more then 8 games.

Sigh, ya, I am probably dreaming...

If King could stay healthy he'd be well worth it. He's a pretty solid corner when he's healthy, which is maybe three games a year, unfortunately.

I don’t think you’re getting it. My belief is Rodgers has found trade partners with 3 different teams with acceptable compensation, right now the ball is in Rodgers court which one of the 4 teams he place with next year us Denver, Tennessee or Pittsburgh, I don’t think it’s as easy as saying move on when it’s in the Diva’s hands to decide where his whiney little ass wants to play

And whatever team he is traded to is going to have to cater to every whim even more so than the Packers have had to. He could decide next year he wants to play on a different team or retire and they could be going through the same thing as the Packers have the last two years. The difference would be that that team would have traded away significant draft capital and have less assets to find a replacement.

Bottom line is Rodgers is pushing 40 and is a consistent playoff underachiever.  That the FO seems so paralyzed from just moving on, I do not get.

Love is a big part of the paralysis.

And I am 100 percent for moving on.  i could learn to love a 5-12.  Tired of Love-ing  a 13-4 playoff early out.

Give me 5-12 for $1,000 A-aron

Get a bounty.  A year too soon rather then a year too late.

Bring in Trubisky for competition.

And here is the other thing. If Love isn't the dude, then fine. He's not the dude. Take these multiple #1 picks you have (if a trade happens) , package them up if need be, and go get a top 10 QB pick.

This organization is acting like they are tied to Jordan forever.

They aren't. At all.

In the end, Brady got a roster bonus last month that took his total compensation playing in Tampa Bay to 58 million for two years (per Sportrac). They didn't get him for 20.5 million a year. It was 29 million because of the hit they took after he delayed his retirement for a couple of weeks. It is still 4.5 million less a year than Rodgers has gotten in his last deal (right now, 4 years for 134 million). Gronk (worth it in my opinion) was part of that deal and cost them 2 years and 18 million. Antonio Brown cost them 2 years and 5 million (and that was all Brady as well).

The Bucs were paying 40 million for a 42 year old QB and a TE and a WR that didn't play the previous year. They gambled and won by paying Brady big money and allowing him to be a de facto GM for some signings.

Brady was the beginning of the QB empowerment era in the NFL and Stafford just showed everyone you don't have to be a first-ballot HOFer to make it work for you. Rodgers and Wilson are just the latest iteration. Brady, Rodgers, Stafford, and Wilson all have enough money for their great-grandkids to live comfortably and can threaten to retire if they don't get what they want. Their teams would then be stuck managing a huge amount of dead cap for a year which creates basically a wasted season (Saints, 2021). The teams are over a barrel. If they let them get to free agency (Rodgers, 2023), they lose their best asset for nothing, so they try to sign them to big extensions. But then the extension creates this dead cap leverage for the player.

The NFL could try to fix this in the next labor agreement but they probably won't, since the NFL is now the lead story on ESPN every night and it keeps them in the conversation almost year round with people being able to talk about where Rodgers and Wilson are going for what used to be a dead period for the league.

If it’s Denver, they have the 9th overall pick, 40th overall pick, and 64th overall pick.   The 64th pick was from LA for Von Miller.

In any event, the value of those picks will be 2022, not next year as you assume Rodgers and the Broncos will have a decent 2022 season.

So if I’m GB, I don’t care about the 2023 Denver 1st rounder.   I’d rather get that 64th pick this year instead.  The 40th overall pick is like having another 1st rounder and the 9th overall pick is worth a lot.

So I’d ask Denver for their 1 this year, both 2s this year, and a 2 next year along with one of their younger players, preferably a WR.

I’m also all for playing Love because if he stinks, the team most likely will be picking early part of the 2023 draft anyway.   You use those 2022 Denver picks and GB picks in 2023 and they could reload very quickly.

I wish we would open it up to NFC teams and take the 9ers for everything they've got, including Trey Lance.

Lance does nothing for us and he’s as much of a project as Jordan Love.

The draft picks are really important and that’s why Denver has to be the leader in the clubhouse.  They have multiple (good) picks to deal and enough cap space to pay Rodgers.

Tennessee could be really interesting because they could send back Tannehill, a 1st this year and next, and a young stud DE like Jeffrey Simmons.  While Tannehill may not be an elite guy, he’s good enough for them to be a playoff type contender and bridge the gap for a couple of years.  He’ll also cost probably half what Rodgers may get as well.

I don't understand the value of a Tannehill bridge the gap type if that guy doesn't give you a chance at a SB.  In fact he hurts you long term because he drops you in the draft order from top 1/4 or 1/3 to probably around 15-20.  If you know you're not going to have a shot in 2022 then play Love.  He sucks, you're in better position to draft a QB in 2023.  He develops then you already have your guy on a path.

While I wouldn’t mind Rodgers returning, it would be an absolute presser cooker for him and the team to win it all to validate the decision.

Yes, they would likely win the division handily and be a top seed in the NFC but how has that worked out for them the last decade or so?  The past 2 years in particular haven’t been a lot of fun the way things ended, and the offseason(s) have been brutal.

While I don’t have a high degree of confidence in Love, the beauty of the situation is if he continues to suck they will have high draft picks and they won’t be committed to him for huge $$.   Given what capital they could net in a Rodgers trade it’s possible they could reset in a hurry.   It’s not like the team and coaching staff and FO are in shambles.
