I know Favre is staying retired because I read it in The Enquirer err on the interwebs.
Besides 48 hrs isn't even enough time for Brett to mow his acres and acres of lawn or take a 3 day seminar on becoming a foreclosure real estate baron.

Favre's interview with SI.com’s Peter King; β€œPart of me coming back last year, I have to admit now, was sticking it to Ted.”

Stick it to 'em Brett!
Florio really comes off sounding like a giant baby the last few days. He had a snide comment earlier about "nobody has ever heard of Rick Schwartz...sorry Rick but it's true". And then this. I hope yahoo is proven right to stick it not only to Florio but ESPN and their NFL coverage (National Favre League).

This guy summed it up well.

I tell you what though, it’d be some pretty strong stuff if Yahoo is right. Say what you want about (b)spn but they are stillt he giant elephant in the room. If you come out head on against them and say hey you’re full of [bleep], our story is correct, and prove it, that would be bad ass. Schaap and the entire network would lose a lot of credibility. And maybe Florio, you might want to rely on Schwartz’s reporting (even if you never heard of him) moving forward as opposed to the douchers at espn..

And Joe 6-pack. Schwartz’s boss is having his back. I like it. It is not the reporters job to get into a pissing match. All he needs to do is stick to his report and let it all play out. Once Football season starts and Favre is making Wrangler commercials as opposed to playing I am sure Schwartz will be doing his fair share of middle finger salutes. To everybody.

Ahhh, but the other day when Rachel Nichols was reporting from Mississippi she noted that someone was cutting Brett's lawn and it was not Brett! CKA perhaps?

Thanks for reminding me. If the end of the weekend blues wasn't bad enough, the Favre saga isn't resolved yet and I will now have scary dreams about Sage lighting up the Pack's defense.

Hope I can still schedule yoga for tomorrow...

He's not a Packer any longer, and I've kind of moved on just like the Packers have. I'm suprised most of the people on this board haven't done the same.

I don't care either, I already know Favre is a dink. I do care when people show up and try to defend the toad, that's what I'm in it for.

Schefter reports if Favre were to retire after the first year and the Packers got the Jets' first-round pick, then the Packers would send the Jets a fifth-round pick in 2010. If the Packers get the Jets' second-round pick, the Jets would get back the Packers' sixth-round pick in 2010. If the Packers get the Jets' third-round pick, the Jets would get back the Packers' seventh-round pick in 2010. Additionally, in the scenario in which the Packers would get the Jets' first-round pick, Favre must play in at least 50 percent of one playoff game for Green Bay to get that compensation.

nothing in there about un-unretiring compensation, so I guess I'll have to leave this one to the lawyers.

I'm just taking my cue from the Packers organization .... they don't seem too occupied or worried about the whole situation. I applaud them for not getting involved. They've wisely moved on.

if he signs with the Vikings, do the Jets have to give us a 7th round pick?

I thought about this when this recent talk began. The question is whether or not the Packers would have to give the Jets their 2010 seventh-round pick or not; the Jets definitely don't owe the Packers any additional picks.

My guess is if Favre remains retired, the Packers have to give the Jets their 2010 seventh-rounder (as per the original deal). If he comes out of retirement, I would assume the Packers wouldn't want to give up that pick (and certainly have a strong case to feel that way).

So really, from a draft-pick standpoint the Packers might be better off if he comes out of retirement. If he stays retired, I'm fairly certain they'll be sending their 2010 seventh-rounder to the Jets.

Jerry Rice (46ers, Raiders, then stints on the Seahawks and Broncos). He never played in a game for the Broncos, and might not have played for the Seahawks either. But he did suit up for both for training camp. Not in the hall yet, but he will be.

Funny, but i was thinking the same thing about Shaq in the NBA. It's very weird to think that he has played on 4 teams, and most likely 5 before he retires. And 2 of those involved trades.

Have they really? Or are they just acting like they have because it does the organization zero good to keep the blood feud alive in the media?

The reports I always see is that there needs to be healing "on both sides" before Favre could be welcomed back for jersey retirement, Packer HoF enshrinement or whatever other honored alumni function might come up. Maybe the beat reporters are just making assumptions but maybe they've seen enough to know that there is a certain passion about the issue inside the walls of 1265 Lombardi that cannot be made public for professional reasons.

Fortunately, us internet hacks don't have any obligation to be fake and posture for the media. If we have the passion on an issue, we're free to express it. Despite my earlier sarcastic post, it is not at all surprising to me that this topic does have that passion among the fanbase (remember, fan is short for fanatic). In fact, it's the exact opposite of surprising. It's entirely predictable since I've been reading TOG becoming an increasingly hot button issue for Packer fans for, oh, I dunno, 4 years now.
Mark Wilf confirms Vikes interest in Favre.

quote:

"Certainly a player of Brett Favre's (credentials), a Hall of Fame quarterback, with the competitive (drive) he has, that is a player that we would have interest (in), as we would have (for) other players," Wilf said. "But, again, it's (a) process of evaluation and a variety of factors that go into it, and that has to play itself out, and I defer to our coach and our personnel people to really evaluate those issues."

Wilf said he and the ownership group entrusted such decisions to head coach Brad Childress and player personnel vice president Rick Spielman and their respective staffs.

Asked directly if anyone from the organization has met with Favre in the last week, Wilf said, "I'm not aware of any meeting.

"But, the fact is, like I say, any football personnel matters, medical matters, those types of issues, are really issues that we don't typically discuss publicly. And I hope the fans and the media can appreciate that because that's the right way, we feel, to get the best product on the field and get our ultimate goal of a Super Bowl championship."

Neither of us have seen the exact deal between the teams, but it's been reported as "If Favre retires after one season, the Jets would receive a 2010 ___________-round pick from the Packers," with that pick dependent on what pick the Packers received from the Jets. (As El-Ka cites above.) Favre being released by the Jets might not have any impact on the deal -- if he stays retired. But, maybe that is one for the lawyers.
Why am I not surprised?

Though several members of the media we spoke with firmly believe that Favre will play for the Vikings next season - after he’s done weaseling out of mini-camp and organized team activities (OTAs) - the bigger, behind-the-scenes story has been the Hall of Famer’s immense, almost juvenile hatred for Thompson.

According to a source, Favre has tried - unsuccessfully - to plant a vindictive, non-football story about Thompson with various members of the media (local and national) over the last year. Nobody has taken the bait. Most of these media members Favre has tried to β€œleak” the information to are the same ones who have mostly coddled him throughout the years, and now they just see him as an entitled, mean-spirited, arrogant jerk.

Must not have leaked it to Mort or Rachel Nichols then as of yet.
Guys,

The Packers had every chance to keep Brett Favre. It was obvious that it wasnt going to happen and they wanted to move on... so... if the guy wants to play and stick it to the team that didnt want him, who can blame him. It happens alot.

It does suck that he was the face of the Franchise the last 15 years, but let's be real... if he wants to play in Minnesota there is nothing wrong with it. I'll hope he does well and the Vikings lose all 16.

If he stays retired, which isnt a bad thing either, im sure you will see him in a NFL Studio sometime giving commentary.

Either way, Brett Favre is a Packer for Life no matter what happens. You cant erase a superbowl win and 15+ fun seasons. So try not to get your panties in a bundle and if the competition happens/it happens and it will be fun to watch AR beat him on the field hopefully.
