I'd rather have Nelson than Cobb.

You need to pee in the cup. Cobb is five years younger and more durable at this stage. Jordy is quickly descending to Drivertown where a linebacker can cover him.

Maybe a month or 2 ago, I was listening to sports radio and there was a metrics guy from one of those stat based sites (Maybe ProFootballOutsiders.com?) getting interviewed.  The topic of Randall Cobb came up, and what this guy said about Cobb surprised me.  I believe he said that Cobb was 2nd only to Antonio Brown in terms of whatever their criteria was to evaluate getting separation from the man covering him on a particular play.

I have to admit that in watching the Pack last year, I didn't see that kind of performance from Cobb, but maybe he's better than his stats may show if that guy's evaluation was somewhat in the ballpark.

Yup, should be able to get a nickel CB for a reasonable price.  And cross your fingers that King is ready to step up and start.  House may be back too, unless I've missed something.

Curious if Gute tries to move up to get one of the top DBs in the draft.  I've been hearing that Fitzpatrick, Ward and James are all slated to go after #6,

And hard to argue with letting Nelson go.  Sucks but was bound to happen.  It was either him or Cobb after the Adams contract, and seems like Gute went with the younger option.  Maybe he comes back on the cheap but my guess is some team with a lot of cap room like the Browns, Jets, or 49ers throws him $20m for 2 years.

Yeah I’m guessing either the Browns or Seahawks grab him. He’s a leader and those are two franchises trying to undergo a culture change. Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes closer to home with Kansas City or Denver either.

As I posted earlier, was thinking NE would be a good guess at a landing spot:

Jordy Nelson had Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback. Could he have Tom Brady as his next quarterback?

Jordan Schultz of Yahoo! Sports reports that the receiver knew the Packers were releasing him and already had the Patriots targeted for his next team. The Raiders, Ravens, 49ers and Seahawks also are expected to have interest in Nelson, Schultz adds.

Pat Robinson is the top CB left according to PFF followed by Tramon Williams, EJ Gaines and Rashaan Melvin. Wouldn’t mind seeing Tramon back, still aggressive on the ball even if he doesn’t have the deep speed anymore.

Brown Paper Sack posted:

Pack should just sign Eric Decker for cheap.  Hell, he could wear Gordy Nelson's old jersey and no one would know the difference.

Oh look.

You misspelled a Packer player's name...how original of you....again.

He’s just excited because his QBs name is Cousins and that also happens to be what he and his wife are. I’m happy to stoke this excitement that Vikings fans are feeling, it will make their tears taste sweeter when they’re once again disappointed come January (more like December).

As to whether Nelson was offered less money to stay, Demovsky says:

"If the Green Bay Packers offered Jordy Nelson a pay cut -- and indications are they did -- then it must have been so low that the one-time Pro Bowl receiver decided to take his chances somewhere else.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst would not say whether that was an option before he released Nelson on Tuesday, although he indicated there were several scenarios that were discussed before the decision was reached.

"There were a lot of discussions that went on," Gutekunst said. "In fairness to him, we won't get into those kind of discussions."

Jordy with AR last  year:

Game 1 - 7 for 79, long of 32, 1 TD

Game 2 - missed

Game 3 - 6 for 52, long of 23, 2 TD

Game 4 - 4 for 75, long of 58, 2 TD

Game 5 - 2 for 24, long of 14, 1 TD

Game 6 - 6 for 60, long of 26, 0 TD (AR injured, was 2 of 4 at the time)

Hundley killed Nelson's career.  Here's hoping that Jordy resigns w/ GB at a reasonable rate.

Take another look at those games with AR:

Game1 - 1 catch for 32, six for 47 (<8 yds ave)

Game 3 - 1 catch for 23, five for 29 (<6 ave)

Game 4 - 1 catch for 58, three for 17 (<6 ave)

Game 5 - 1 catch for 14, one for 10 (10 ave)

Game 6 - 1 catch for 26, five for 34 (<7 ave)

Jordy was good for one long catch per game, but his average on the others was not that of a No. 1 WR. If I recall, most of the TDs were also short. And he had Adams to take pressure off him. Hundley didn’t kill Jordy’s career; it was already tailing off.

Love Jordy and a class act, but his production was dropping.

Yes, blaming Hundley would be racist

Facts are facts and I saw the same thing.

Years past Jordy took that quick run-pass option and made the CB miss and turned it into a 1st down.  Last year a hand touched him and he fell down.

Cobb is our slot.  Time for Adams and Allison to step up... add in Davis and a new TE experiment, there are plenty of weapons, regardless of draftees and other FA pickups.

Now get to work on DBs Gute!
