However let's all remember that Vernon Davis was a turd coming into the NFL, didn't practice like he should have, didn't run his routes, didn't try like he could have and had MAJOR maturity issues. Davis with all that would have been the Packers 5th overall pick. Finley with similar issues was taken down in the 3rd round.

Easy to play GM now and Davis also got benched and then a thorough ass chewing by Singletary multiple times before he finally woke up and began trying. You think that would have sat well with the 5th overall pick here in GB?

AJ Hawk wasn't worth the pick. But he also has a championship ring. Davis does not.

Agreed. I could swear that there was some talk before that 2006 draft that Davis was very anti-Green Bay which really made the Pack want to stay away from him. Davis was not a special player those first few years even though he did show potential. Right now, no doubt about it, he is special, but it basically took about 5 years to reach that level.
I don't think Finley is becoming a cancer, as i don't think he's affected anyone else's attitude in the locker room. I just don't think he's reliable on the field anymore. A TE needs to be a safety valve, meaning he has to catch the ball when it's thrown too him EVERY SINGLE TIME. But Finley is the least reliable target on the field, which is ridiculous for a TE b/c they should be one of the safest.

Finley has 11 more games to prove his worth. If he doesn't, he'll be cut before his roster bonus is due before next season.
quote:
β€œWhen I catch a ball in the first half, I mean the first quarter, the first few plays, and I don’t touch the ball until half, I get out of my groove, man,” Finley said. β€œIt’s natural. You need to get your playmakers involved early, you know what I mean, to keep impacting the game.

Playmaker?

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH... That's cute, JerMichael, run along now.
Finley reiterates lack of chemistry with Rodgers

quote:
β€œIt’s OK,” Finley said earlier this week, via Paul Imig of FOXSportsWisconsin.com. β€œNot good enough at all. Something to be worked on, and try to work on it as much as I can, try to talk to him as much as I can, but like I said, it takes two people. . . . I need the quarterback on my side, and I need to catch the ball when he throws it to me. So it takes two things to get that going, the chemistry. I feel we need to get that going.”

Imig notes that Finley used the β€œC” word during the offseason. β€œI’m not blaming it on my offseason, but me and the QB didn’t have chemistry,” Finley said in June, after a minicamp practice. β€œThe routes were off sometimes, and that’ll mess with your head when the ball comes. . . . I couldn’t get the chemistry with the QB.”

quote:
β€œI think he’s playing good, but like I said, this is a team sport, and it’s going to take all 11 of us on the field when he’s on the field with us. I don’t put it all on him. It’s his receiving corps, we’re dropping balls; it’s his linemen not blocking for him. He’s got a lot to think about. I would be scared, too, if I was getting hit like that.”

So not only did he blame Rodgers for his lack of production, he also said he's playing scared which to me is essentially throwing the OLine under the bus as well. Smart move Jerry!

Ship this POS out of town as soon as possible.
it's on PFT now.
good initial post right below article:

Hmmm, well lets make a comparison. Martellus Bennet has only played with Eli for 5 games. He has 19 catches for 217 yards and 3TD’s. Finley has played with Rodgers for 5 years and this year has 22 catches for 198 yards and 1 TD. So either Eli is phenomenal at making chemistry with his receivers, or Finley just sucks.
Finley is the classic, "it's not me it's you" player (the anti-Costanza....). It's never Finley's fault, it's always chemistry, or not getting the ball enough, or his injury, or something. It was like this day one against Tennessee, and it's like this today. Unless things change these next 11 games, I don't see TT paying him his bonus next year.

When things aren't going right, great players look in the mirror (ie: Rodgers this week). Lesser players blame everything else.
I think we see Thompson try and ship Finley off this offseason, probably part of a draft day trade. Problem is his base salary for next year is about 4.5 millions and his cap number overall is 8.75 million. For a player with alligator arms and a broken mouth filter, 8.75 million is not appealing for another team to take on. I don't know the specifics, but he has 3.5 million roster bonus that I'm assuming gets paid when he's on the roster at the beginning of the new league year which I'm guessing is like March 12th(?), so I fully expect him to either be traded or cut (most likely) by that time.

This team has normally been about accountability with who got new contracts. Players who produced and were part of the team have been rewarded (Woodson, Pickett, Sitton, etc.) and those who don't have been jettisoned. Finley used to produce which is why they have kept him, but if he's not producing AND he's a jerk, what good is he? None.
From what I understand, he is due that $4.5M at the start of the league year, and salary would be around $3.5M again. TT knew exactly what he was doing in essentially making this a $6M prove it year.

Even if he picks up his play and takes Rodgers out for ice cream, I don't see any way he's getting that $8M next year. Maybe they'll just consider that found money and franchise Greg for another year.

Thats why I do not get MM/TT on this guy ... they have done a good job up until this jagoff about taking responsibility even when it might not be you so much. They can't contain this guys access to the public and he won't shutty ...

I'm really surprised he is still in green Bay, I doubt they want this to linger much longer without him getting a good arse kicking from someone like Lang.
(would luv to see them 2 square off)
MM/TT captivated by the potential. Well, that's played out. A trade will not happen - why would anyone possibly trade for him? He'll find himself relegated to the bench, the season will end and he will be unceremoniously cut. In the interim, MM will tell him to lock it and I'll be surprised if you hear more than a whimper from him the rest of the year. If he defies, he's out. Pronto.

That's actually my dream scenario. We'll see if the "potential" love fest continues. The one part that is not a dream is that no-one will trade for this loser.
