After watching a Chinese Fire Drill offense since the days of Bert, I wouldn't mind a defensive HC with a real whizz-bang OC. Only problem is we'd lose that whizz-bang OC when the Vikes fire Ol' One-Eye next year.
Many times it is when you play the games rather than who you play. IE: Vikings or Lions at Lambeau in Dec vs playing them in Sept. Thursday Night road game vs. home game. Possible Chargers & Chiefs or NFC West back to back. When the bye week is. Lots of variables as to whether the schedule is hard or easy or than just who you play. JMHO.
There are so many variables right now in those teams that how "easy" they are next year.
Eagles, Washington: depends on QBs. Will Wentz be back to "normal"? Will Smith recover or who else would Washington get?
Denver, Oakland: Denver is building back up it's D; how far into that process will it be next year and will it have a competent O ala Manning SB year? Oakland... Dumpster fire and will be disappointing if GB doesn't win.
Panthers, Bucs, Atl: Meh. None are scary after this year.
'Boys, NYG: Will Garrett still be in Dallas so they never reach their potential? Will NYG find its new QB or will OBJ play football?
KC, San... oops, LAC, Cards or 49ers: Does Mahomes suffer a "sophomore slump" (and I can't see that happening)? Will Rivers still be slingin' it or does he call it a career and go home to SD? Garrapolo could jumpstart SF, but Cards are a mess.
That leaves our own division. Bears seem to be on the right track. MN is MN and Cousins is Cousins and they are tied to each other for a couple more years, thank goodness. Detroit: Does Patricia get that wreck straightened out and Stafford too? Probably not.
All in all, I think many, many teams are going to be looking for new QBs, if not for this coming year then to put on the roster for next year.

Hard to gauge a schedule just yet but I can definately see the NFL giving the Packers a back to back with road trips to KC and maybe the Chargers. They seem to love doing that to them.
KC is an interesting one. I for one love Mahomes game but I do think he will have a semi sophomore slump.
Couples names I haven't seen talked about yet:
Steelers OC Randy Fichtner - Steelers are 5th in points with a 36 year old QB and no Leveon Bell. Underrated innovator who apparently has been outstanding with his situational calls. He's not exactly a "young up and comer" at 55, but he's been a successful position coach and coordinator with PIT for the last 11 years.
Ravens DC Wink Martindale - Top scoring D in the NFL (18 ppg), philosophy is "The quarterback can’t complete the pass on his back." Runs similar style scheme to Rex Ryan and Pettine, likely would keep Pettine on.
Colts OC Nick Sirianni - Young up and coming coach, might be a year early for him to get consideration. He and Reich have turned around the Colts offense who are 8th in points. Might be a better candidate to pair with a defensive head coach like Pettine, sounds like he brings a high energy and detail oriented style.
Steelers might have the best O-line in the NFL. I'm sure that has a lot to do with Fitchner having sussess.
Still like the idea of a Pettine/Fangio type HC and cutting edge OC.
....and rebuild the OL as a major focus. OL and Front 7 in the draft. Sprinkle a few key FA and we are back at it.
Why is the talent what is making Fichtner successful, but Fangio is a good choice? Isn't he working under the same circumstances (and has been since being at SF)? I like Fangio also. I think both guys have talented squads, but are also talented coaches that know how to utilize their players.

Why? He's every bit as good if not better than Pettine (who seems to be a popular vote for HC), he's innovative, and he's been successful everywhere he's been as DC.
Yeah, not sure where the negativity is coming from regarding Fangio. Not sure if he is head coach material but he for sure is an 'elite' coordinator in the league.

I think people (as do I) tend to think of him as a very good DC but not necessarily HC material. I also think that he is in his 60s and many would like a younger up and coming coach.
Glad someone else caught the Wink Martindale reference and it would be a bit of a Gambit to hire him.

The nice thing about next year's schedule is that there are only 2 games against Pro Bowl level QBs (Rivers and Mahomes). No Brady, Brees, Luck, Wilson, Big Ben, Matt Ryan, or Cam Newton). Or even Baker Mayfield or DeShaun Watson.
Of course, the fact they get to play 6 games a year against Trubisky, Cousins, and Stafford always makes those games more winnable.

Whoever the coach is better vet his fukking staff better than MM did. I like MM a lot, but I’m not in disagreement that he couldn’t put together a staff to save his life (or apparently his job).

Sugar Bear micromanaged his way out the door. McVince mismanaged his way out the door.
I get these guys are mid to late round rookies and they seem like they have a good amount of talent (except Moore). It's pretty clear any desperate changes to the offense made on the fly were going to absolutely sink these young guys on the field.
