Again, Demovsky thinks.

So does Henry. And that guy from Norway, Braindead, and everyone else who has taken the VERY little we actually know about the Rodgers/Packers relationship and have opined this and that.

Day 130, nothing has changed, and nothing is really known.

Fuck Rodgers for letting this shit simmer.

Trade his ass.

I don't think he's letting it simmer.  I think he already threw the whole pot in the trash and ordered a Hawaiian pizza.

After doing some hard thunkin' I thunk Rodgers don't give a shit.

I know we are not suppose to be harping on this, so I apologize in advance. But I need to be able to comprehensively explain how this played out to my grandchildren someday…

If Rodgers decides to sit this year does GB have to trade him next year, or is he able to get out of his contract? What if he retires then wants to come back next year like Favre did?  Isn’t he still property of GB and have to be traded like Gronk was this past year? Could GB just simply refuse to trade him while he’s under contract for the next 3 years or whatever it is?

No matter what Rodgers does, the Packers control where Rogers can play this year and in 2022 and 2023 (when his contract expires).  If he sits out this season, the Packers then control where he plays through 2025.  If Rodgers sits out this year and is traded next year, his new team would still have Rodgers under contract for 3 more years, or through 2024 (although any trade would likely come with a new deal).

EDIT: And "retiring" doesn't change anything.  Packers still have him under contract if he decides to unretire.  Gronk retired for a year but when he came back, he was still a Patriot.  They then traded him to the Bucs.  It'd be similar with Rodgers.

I just hope that when and if he comes back it as a happy member of the Packers.

It will serve no one well if he is disgruntled and feels that he basically has been forced to play in GB.

It will be ok. Murphy will talk to him. He won't be the problem.

As our French brethren Henri has stated above, I think that shipped has sailed. Don’t see him back.

And if anyone is pronouncing the "h" in Henri I will find you and cram some freedom fries in your burger hole.

I think it’s funny people still write letters….

In his monthly column for the team website, Packers president Mark Murphy doesn’t provide any newsy update on the Aaron Rodgers situation but admits it has “divided our fan base.” Full paragraph here:

This gave me a chuckle.

A question from Duane

Murphy! Get that jerk Gutekunst to get off his butt and make a play to get Julio Jones on the Packers!

*Thanks for the email, Duane. Thanks as well for the 20 previous emails you've sent MT5 in recent months. Interestingly, there is not a single question among the 20 emails. While I appreciate your persistence and passion, I must tell you that I have tremendous confidence in Brian Gutekunst. In his relatively short tenure as our GM, he has completely turned around the fortunes of our team. He has put together a talented team (last year we had the most players voted to the Pro Bowl) that has a 28-8 record over the last two years, after consecutive losing seasons in 2017 and 2018, and has played in back-to-back NFC Championship games. Moreover, he has a great working relationship with Head Coach Matt LaFleur. He and EVP/director of football operations Russ Ball have managed our salary cap smartly and have us well positioned for the future. *

Any trade package the Packers get for Rodgers is going to mostly be built around high draft picks. They might get a player or two, but it will be the draft picks that represent most of the value. All the other teams have their rosters set and aren't going to want to move key players at other positions without having much of a chance to replace them until next offseason.

For the upcoming season, there might be two teams (really just the Broncos at this point) still looking for an upgrade at QB. After the next couple of weeks, everybody will be done with mini-camps and already started the process of putting in their offensive schemes. It took Rodgers a year to really get/buy into the new scheme that MLF installed in 2019. Is he really going to go somewhere and instantly know a new scheme with no offseason prep? Obviously, he'll still likely be great, but it will be far from optimal. The Broncos (the most likely destination if he is moved) mandatory minicamp starts June 15th. I thought they might have already had a deal in place after June 1 with Denver, but that's looking less likely. If he doesn't get moved by their minicamp, it reduces the chances even more.

If the Packers do move to Love for 2021, they aren't likely to be a threat to go deep in the playoffs. So any players they get back for Rodgers right now are likely to be that much closer to eventual free agency.

There is really no reason to trade Rodgers at all right now. You aren't getting that much back to help this year because most of the guys that are going to help you are playing in college right now. Let's say he sits out the whole year. Does it really diminish his value? Manning came back after sitting out a year with a neck injury at 35 and played 4 more years.  Having him sit out is better than having him disgruntled and playing that way and risking an injury.

Let him sit and he might be more valuable next off-season. There will be more teams in the mix that might want him, he'll still have 3 years on his contract, teams will have all off-season to have him learn the offense, and the Packers will get salary cap relief if he sits out they can use to extend other guys.

I think what he might try to do if he really wants to screw with them is to hold out until right before the regular-season opener or a couple of games into the season so he gets credit for a year of service.

I know this isn’t a popular opinion, but if he doesn’t want to play any more for GB I’d rather they not do anything with him while he’s under contract and have him sit. I just don’t want to see him in another uniform winning a Super Bowl with another team. I know GB could potentially benefit from the draft picks, but it’s a risky proposition. I’d rather take a proven commodity to help them win now. In a perfect world where salary cap wasn’t an issue I’d be a lot more comfortable with something like a Rodgers for Wilson trade or something alike. I know it won’t happen though.

Love him or hate him, going through that shit with Favre sucked ass. Of course most specifically when he went to Minnesota. I cheered just as hard against MN as I did for GB. The week leading up to the NFCCG caused more stress then I remember ever feeling, and I considered putting myself in a medically induced coma until the end of that game. I don’t want to experience that again with Rodgers.

Send Arod to Dallass to play with McVince. He already knows the offense 😆

So does the opposing defense.  And the game analyst. And the beat writers.  And the fans.  But not Dexter Williams.  Don't think he's capable of learning an NFL offense.

Jesus Fuck

They've been to two title games in two years. There is no team at this point that is better positioned that they could add a qb and reach the SB. The core of the Packer roster is as intact as it will get, save for guys that haven't yet contributed but will be expected to. I think it's fair to say it's been a source of pride(?) that our QB is as intelligent as it gets, so I'm not exactly sure how this part would escape him.

Like it or not, this saga plays on the emotions of everyone that feels invested in this team. We all have opinions that favor/blame one side or the other. I'm beginning to wonder if AR bothered to factor in the possibility that fans might react to this as it specifically relates to your way of thinking. It might be that he doesn't give one f*** about it, but honestly I think after the TOG mess, it's perfectly normal for fans to be pragmatic in the sense of "if you don't want to be in GB any longer, then move on and we will start cheering for a guy that does want to be in town." It's the clearest path to avoid that comparison to the Favre situation.

I was as big a Brett Favre fan as anyone, and I learned that lesson. I've fully appreciated every snap Rodgers has taken since then, precisely because of the Favre soap opera. What TOG brought in sheer will and emotion, he squandered by the way he shit on us all. AR has been a far better QB, but in terms of emotional investment (or at least the perception) he can't match Favre, it just isn't part of his DNA.  For most diehard people, the turnaround will be much shorter due to the crap that went down 13 years ago.

Personally, I want the guy to finish in GB, I want him to be happy in GB, I want him to win another ring for this franchise. But if it isn't something he wants, he won't be holding the fanbase hostage and he really should understand that given all of his experience. As much blame as there is to go around, this period of speculation and confusion and uncertainty is only going to bring more fans around to accepting that the Jordan Love era might be here a bit early but nonetheless it is coming. So be it. People were upset with Brett because they supported him through EVERYTHING. This time around won't be as forgiving because people won't like being played for suckers again.

I'll save time.

You're great and all Aaron, but please go away. You're smarter than Favre, but your douchey ego is just as big as his.

P.S. Thanks for sparing us the dick pics.

9ers disagree.  Any team with a top 10 defense disagrees.

Chemistry, familiarity, past practice. What you've built over time, brick by brick as AR is wont to say. Idc what anyone says, there's nothing like playing and playing well in front of Packer Nation. There is no better satisfaction than playing for a ring in GB. Aaron knows this.

The Niners weren't going to be a trade option, especially after they whooped our asses twice. But who knows? All he has to do with a top 10 defense is find that 6th sense chemistry with any wr, the mindmelding with the HC, the security of having 3 safety valves at rb who knew their role and did their job, the synergy with a tightknit o-line, the old savvy vet who can relate to how old you've gotten and be exactly where you need him to be at a given moment. The camaraderie, the extra juice that a backup rb injects because he ran through a tackle to gain 4 extra yards. Or a rookie rb when he drags 4-5 defenders for 3 more yards. Or watching that screen develop in front of you while throwing to a guy that can bust one at any time. Almost as if Rodgers can benefit from being a part of it as much as the grace he bestows on everyone with his own presence.

It can be done. But if your name ain't Brady, I wouldn't bet on it, and if he didn't do it this coming year, he's a year older and closer to Hollywood.

Not sure Goldie is in on that.

It would be a mistake for the team to issue an excused absence unless truly warranted. Never wise to reward bad behavior.
