Dan Grimm, 1941-2018

Fedya ·
Another member of the 1965 championship team who was selected by Atlanta in the expansion draft , Grimm played guard for three seasons for the Packers. Apparently he died last Thursday, but I didn't see any notice until today. :(

Edmunds and James right there for the taking and trades back for a 5 and a pick next year? That's just weird. If he got #91 it would have been cool, but #147? Now trades back up with more resources this year?

Weird. Last week, Dennis Clairidge who appeared on his playing card for the Falcons in a Packer uniform passed away. This week Dan Grimm....same story. Anybody got a picture of Favre in his Falcon uniform on a Packer card?

It was weird, and real grades are a long way off, just initial feelings: I absolutely loved the Burks and Madison picks. There hasn't been an ILB in Green Bay with Burks' speed/potential in coverage since Barnett. Madison comes from a fast-paced passing offense so I'm sure he'll need work on his three-point stance, but he's also the only real O-lineman they drafted. The corners are concerning. Jackson is not known for his man skills but how do you pass on that value even if you have to run...

My thoughts on the draft: Trades : Gute killed it here. Don't think I've ever seen as good a trio of trades in the draft in years. They dropped back 4 picks in the first and likely picked a guy they might have drafted anyways. And all they needed to get back to 18 was a third round pick, which they got back into the third using the extra 4th and 5th rounders they had. They already had 9 picks in rounds 1-5 so using a 4th and 5th to trade into the third round made a ton of sense. Looking at...

We've got a new defensive skipper. Based on reputation, I can safely say that Mike Pettine has exhaustively reviewed tape of every single player on the roster that lines up on D. He knows what he needs to put his system in place. What did Blake Martinez say a few weeks ago about when he met with Pettine early in the offseason? He preached "No missed assignments. No mental errors." Accountability. We'd all like the sexy top 15 defensive edge rusher. You can never have too many impact pass...

Welcome to another edition of Fedya's “Movies to Tivo” Thread, for the week of May 7-13, 2018. First, I need to apologize for the fact that TCM pulled We Go to Monte Carlo from the schedule at the last minute I should have realized something was up when they had a 90-something minute movie scheduled in a 75-minute slot. Anyhow, we finally get to our Star of the Month this week. We've also got some more movie series, and Mothers' Day on Sunday which means yet another showing of Mildred Pierce...

Monday night on TCM brings a bunch of movies based on fairy tales. I don't know that The Wacky World of Mother Goose , at 4:30 AM Tuesday, is a TCM premiere, but I don't recall ever seeing it on the schedule before. It's an animated version of the Mother Goose stories, with the voice of Margaret Rutherford as Mother Goose and animation done by Rankin/Bass, the same people who brought us Christmas specials like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer . Earlier in the evening, at 3:00 AM Tuesday,...

Mayock says Louisville CB Jaire Alexander. Would be an interesting pick. Kind of short, but to me he's 1a and 1b with Denzel Ward in terms of man coverage ability and challenging receivers. Reminds me A LOT of Tramon.

Seems kinda high for Jaire. Assuming they could find a trade partner (Patriots) you could trade down & get him.

GB must be putting out some word about Jaire Alexander (or Alexander's agent is touting his client as a top 15 pick) because Albert Breer is saying in MMQB Alexander or Mike Hughes with Landry/Davenport also possible.

I'm not too caught up on the height issue but Tramon is listed at 6', which is bull****. Alexander is pegged at 5' 10". What a skillset though. NFL.com is labeling him an "instant starter". Take it for what it's worth. From MMQB, which you linked: The problem with filing my Sports Illustrated magazine mock 11 days before the draft is that I knew I hear stuff that would make me regret some picks afterwards. And that brings us to Hughes to the Packers at 14. While most teams seem OK with him,...

Helmet Hair's Final Mock 1. Cleveland Browns Baker Mayfield , QB, Oklahoma You heard it from ESPN's Adam Schefter this morning. Baker to Cleveland is all the talk. Josh Allen isn't helped by the offensive tweets that surfaced overnight . Mayfield could be ready to compete with Tyrod Taylor immediately. 2. New York Giants Saquon Barkley , RB, Penn State We can't ignore the Barkley buzz. The Giants love him. 3. New York Jets (from Indianapolis Colts ) Sam Darnold , QB, USC I don't think the...

McShart Final Mock 1. Cleveland Browns Sam Darnold , QB, USC I've had Darnold here in every mock I've done, dating back to my Way-Too-Early mock in May 2017, so why waver now? In my opinion, he's the best QB in this draft. We'll find out if John Dorsey agrees tonight. 2. New York Giants Saquon Barkley , RB, Penn State This is going to be a tough choice for the Giants, but Barkley is the top player in this draft and a generational talent. Odell Beckham Jr ., Evan Engram and Barkley are an...

Have seen McGlinchey move into the top 10 in many of the latest mocks. He's been below 14 until this last week. Pushes another D prospect down! Some of what have been considered mid RD1 prospects have been pushed toward the end of the round over the last month. Could be a really good reason to trade back into late RD1 or top of RD2.

Re: 2018 NFL DRAFT Viewing Thread

That's an interesting point though. If the premium defenders are gone and the Packers like McGlinchey I wouldn't be surprised if they took him for RT. No way can Guffenfluffen think Spriggs is the answer for any position on the line. He's a hole in the roster. That's another thing I'll be interested in is how long Goink will hold onto "developing" players.

Yeah Tramon measured 5'11" (71.1" specifically) before the draft, teams always exaggerate height/weight. Alexander measured 5'10" (70.2" specifically). I'm not caught up in the height issue either, I don't think that 1.1" makes a big difference.

Personally, I hope GB squats at 14 and waits to see if Fitzpatrick or Edmunds slides to them. If not take Davenport. Then..... trade back into RD1 to the 32nd spot with Philly and snatch Josh Jackson who's still on the board.

The Browns might send the whole thing in to chaos depending on if they take Barkley at #1 or one the QB's. I personnally think they will take Darnold or Allen at #1 and then take the edge rusher Chubb at #4. I could see them thinking they could have tandem edge rushers with Garrett. The Giants have been linked to Barkley as well and think the odds are they take him but I wouldnt be at all shocked if they take Rosen or Darnold at #2. Eli isnt getting any younger and they will need a...

Consensus right now among "insiders" seems to be CLE is taking Mayfield and NY isn't interested in the remaining QBs. Saw where Denver could trade up with NY to get Darnold and NYJ will be scrambling because they've zeroed in on Mayfield. That's some chaos.

McGinn has a track record for nailing it. If they stay at 14, and get Fitzpatrick, that is huge. Dude was once projected as a top 5, and has been pretty much projected top 10 for the last 3 months.

JMHO. There are three defensive players you could drop on the field in the NFL and they'll produce from day 1. Chubb, Smith, and Fitzpatrick. I actually think Smith will end up being the best defensive player in this draft. So If Fitz is on the board at 14 you turn that card in stat. The goal today is to find the best football players available.

My Prediction.... On the morning of the 2018 NFL Draft , Cleveland Browns general manager Sonny Weaver Jr. must decide how to use the seventh overall pick to improve the team , but he has other problems on his mind. His girlfriend Ali Parker, the team's salary cap analyst, is pregnant. Also, his father's recent death and funeral plans cause pandemonium with his mother. The Seattle Seahawks hold the first overall pick, which general manager Tom Michaels offers to trade to the Browns, allowing...
