And what part of shining a spot light on that would be negative?

You are right Timmy but if the guy that's supposed to be teaching you this stuff is beating the piss out of you instead how is that lesson passed on?  The point is using the example to show men and women there is a different way.  The celebrity is the conveyance of a spot light for a issue that joe blow can't attract.

I wasn't sure where your question was aimed when I first read it. However, your next paragraph was beautifully written and well-stated. It makes it damned hard to argue against it at all, but I still don't think it's healthy to have athletes/celebrities/etc as role models. There's so many better ways.

There's not a charity/foundation that will ever change that crap, too, no matter how much money is thrown at it. However, if these guys want to walk the walk after they have talked, I'd be all for that. It's not a problem-solver, but it is a start.

There is more than enough people chiming in on this subject, we don't need the brain dead to get involded. As far as Goodall is concern, its a NFL matter and that's where it should stay.

Sen. Heitkamp should seriously consider not being a grandstanding blankety-blank.

If elected officials get any notions that their words are instrumental in getting a business leader to quit, they're going to try to use that power in more and more ways.

I would tend to agree with your brain dead comment, but if Goodell is going to get canned over this, it's going to come from outside sources like the government, organizations, etc.

I read an article, that stated that there are 3 outcomes of the NFL "not seeing the tape".

1) NFL is straight up lying about not seeing the tape.

2) NFL investigators didn't think or know to ask other entities to see the tape.

3) NFL knew about the tape, and DIDN'T want to see it, so they wouldn't have to punish a    star, and they could claim plausible deniability.

Either way, 1 and 3 are as bad as it gets, and if it turns out to be 2, then the investigators should be fired, and that raises the idea of pure negligence in investigations.

Give government the influence to get Goodell fired, and they're immediately going to misuse that influence in all sorts of awful ways.  It's what governments do.

Goodell's father was a U.S. Senator and IIRC he was the first Republican Senator to call for Nixon's resignation in the early 1970s.

Life is interesting sometimes.

EDIT:  Oops. Did some checking and relearned that Goodell senior lost his re-election bid in 1970 in large measure because he opposed Nixon over Vietnam and Nixon withheld support during the primary, which Goodell then lost to Jim Buckley (William F. Buckley's brother). Senator Jim Buckley was the first GOP Senator to call for Nixon to resign. Oh well, memory is the second thing to go with age...

Buncha lilly white saints in here that have it all figured out.

Consider this:  1 in 4 women are victims of Domestic Abuse in their lifetime at some point.  Only 25% of those assaults are reported to the police.

My point?  There is an extremely high likelihood that the very same posters in this thread calling for heads to roll and condemning Ray-Ray for jacking his wife have done something similar.

Have you stopped beating your wife, Pakrz?

I'm trying to figure out this logic.  You mean commenting in this specific thread or general board population?  Because we already know about some people.

I really started to dislike him when he seemed so gung ho on an 18 game regular season.  I definitely remember Cris Carter saying there was no way around the fact that adding two games would be detrimental to the health of the players.

I don't think Goodell gave a crap.

Now with this sad event, it sure appears Goodell is strong on image and profit and weak on integrity.

It's a pretty strong thing to say.

Yeah, 25% is high and the more posters we got, the more it is likely.  But, a couple things.  One is how many men are multiple women offenders?  Two, what if the demographic of men most likely to abuse women is unlike the demographics of x4 posters?

I am not here to say you are wrong, just that you are not necessarily right and given that...again, pretty strong thing to say.

EDIT:  Not ALL mind you... but the odds are clearly in favor of a few.

Eat a dick Fedumdum.

If you're going to insinuate that posters here are beating their wives, why shouldn't everybody turn around and insinuate you're one such poster?

Well, apart from the possibility of a libel suit.

Just in general.  I have nobody in mind... just going off reported information.  Everybody always wants to condemn others for doing stupid **** and ignore their own backyard in the process.  I am in no way, shape or form giving Ray-Ray a pass.  He made his own bed.

Given statistical data, what would make you think that some of the people on this board are immune to the odds?

Insinuate all you want.  I'm not immune to the odds either.

Granted TMZ came up with the video, but c'mon people, TMZ aint nothing but a newer version of the National Enquirer. If you start citing their "news" as something resembling fact, well there's a 3-headed wolf boy working with Elvis at a 7/11 in Des Moines y'all oughta check out.

@ Bong: True again.  Interesting how there's so much angst over data, don't ya think?

Yo Bonger:  What does the data say about steroid abusers and domestic violence?

Who's been right all through this process?  Was it the NFL?  Peter King?  Other 'trusted' news sources?

Sometimes the rags get it right.  Given the reaction to the video from the league, this appears to be one of those times.

Besides, I thought everyone in Des Moines looked like the three-headed wolf boy.  Hardly news.

Your response to Packerboi IS very condescending.   And I am quite sure he is more of a man than you will ever dream to be.

Such hostility toward a total stranger. You try to insult me by calling me less of a man. You mean more like a woman? Or was that supposed to be a compliment?

I don't see why gender is an issue here but it seems to be for a lot of people. It shouldn't be. Assault is assault.

Are there a lot of fans here of hate crime laws too?

Thought packerboi was a woman. Mixed him up with someone else, I guess.

If Parkz is a lawyer his odds are probably higher than the rest of us.  Statistically speaking, Lawyers are more prone to depression and substance abuse.   Those probably raise the odds for domestic violence.

Creep.

Pakrz, if there was ever an excuse to go upside the head of another dude, this is it.
