Grave Digger,  please explain your trade with Oakland.

Swap 1sts (32 for 24), OAK gets our 3rd, we get OAK’s 4th. OAK has multiple 1sts and lots of needs, imagine Gruden is going to stockpile a bit.

Yeah I’m sure rounds are off, it’s not clear where guys fit right now. It’s a super deep TE class, I’ve seen places that put him as the 7th best TE, which means teams will wait to get a better value. Maybe, he could kill the pre-draft process and go in R1. Top of the 4th is likely too low, hard to say what teams prioritize, George Kittle may have given life to this breed of TE vs the Jordan Reed/Trey Burton shorter, move TE.

Jonah Williams just got steamrolled

I was watching him a lot last night and was not impressed.  Not even close to being in Quenton Nelson's league.  Actually saw some plays where he pulled out in space and hit no one.

Nelson was a rare prospect having nearly no flaws in his college game, I don't think it's realistic to look at OL and not think they're worthy of a high pick because they don't measure up to Nelson. Very few players will ever hold up to that standard IMO. That said, this play in particular is troubling for Williams:

Ferrell is a top 5 pick, there's no doubt about his talent. He's a franchise pass rusher, but the NFL is loaded with great pass rushers, Williams would see 3 guys of Ferrell's caliber in our division (Mack, Griffin, Hunter). Now Tua needs to help his LT out a little and step into the pocket, Williams sets expecting Ferrell to run the arc with Tua stepping up, so when Tua doesn't step up it and sits deep in his drop then Ferrell shifts to power and Williams can't recover. I think if Tua steps up then this doesn't happen, but it's troubling to see the lack of power really show up here.

I don't know but the eyeball test, clemson: 99 and 42? and on ala, was 92 and that judy wr...the rb looked good too...clemson had a good looking wr they said he was a freshman ross? I think his name is?  I would take any one of those - whoever is going into the draft...

Ross was a beast last night.  If he and his QB leave the same year, very likely they are 1 and 2 in the entire draft.

Justyn Ross looked like Odell Beckham against Bama. He's a true freshman, too. Quinnen Williams looks like the real deal on the D Line for Bama. He'll go in the top 3. Clellin Ferrell is a beast. He'd look awfully good in Green and Gold. Maybe Gute makes a move up the board???

Just saw a mock slating Ferrell at #12 for the Packers, which I find a little hard to believe but would be absolutely giddy as I think anyone would.

SBNation Dan Kadar, so take it for what it's worth, which is very little.

12. Green Bay Packers: Clelin Ferrell, DE, Clemson

The Packers are still in search of a head coach, so it’s challenging to lock them into players based on system fit. If defensive coordinator Mike Pettine is retained by the next head coach, he’ll push for a pass rusher. Florida’s Jachai Polite is a logical choice, but Ferrell is closing his Clemson career strong.

31. Green Bay Packers: (via New Orleans): Brian Burns, DE/OLB, Florida State

It wouldn’t be the worst idea for the Packers to double up on edge rushers in the first round of the draft. Burns is more of a standup rusher than Ferrell, and can be moved around a little more.

I don't think they are in a position to give up a lot of draft picks. If there is a guy he really likes, maybe Gute packages the two first rounders to move up 5-7 spots, but I think they are more likely to keep the picks they have and add a lot more depth. This is a roster that is hurting from several weak drafts in the last 5 years. They need as many good players as they can get. It isn't like the 2010-12 teams that were deep in a lot of positions and could afford to put all its eggs in one basket (even though TT never did that).

From the article:

But he did sum up the Clemson season as well as anyone, using an apt, albeit crude analogy to describe the 2018 Tigers experience.

“It’s like taking a dump,” he said with a laugh. “We got the job done this season, and we got [to the title game]. But, if you don’t wipe, you’ll feel terrible. We wiped up tonight, so we feel great.”

We had Najeh Davenport after all...

As with all mock drafts at this point in the season, I expect any guys that I'd love the Packers to have skyrocket out of our reach...or get drafted one pick before us when the actual event rolls around.

This would be a strong move if the two guys are there. Ferrell/Allen/Polite and Burns/Sweat would be pretty hard to pass up, regardless of future contract worries.

Trade down, then back up again acquiring another first in 2020 - It worked well last year

The funny thing is, Alexander was arguably the weakest player in that string. Edmonds, James and Vander Esch looked even better, let alone Chubb, Ward and Smith. That was a ridiculously strong run of defensive players in the top 20 last year.

Maybe not in DBs, but this year has the potential makings of a good one also.

Yeah if Ferrell falls to 12 Gute better have their guy RUN the card up there. He's a Khalil Mack type impact player IMO.

If that's the case, would it not be wise to package the two #1's and move up to get him?

I’m hearing you... GB needs a lot of help.  I’m just going on GDer’s opinion of Ferrell.  If he is the 2nd coming of Mack, you do what you gotta do.  Mack is a franchise changing football player.  I get the crapshoot argument as well.

I firmly believe Gute is going to hit the FA market pretty hard to fill some holes that will make GB more flexible come draft day.

Maybe more so to take advantage of the open window.

Agreed about Ferrel.  I wouldn't complain about a package to get a guy like that.

Even though GB desperately needs O Line help, if Ferrell is there at #12, I think Gute has to take him. With our second pick in the 1st Round, I could see Gute doubling up on Pass Rushers with either Polite, Sweat or Burns if he gets Ferrell at #12. I'm hoping we can find an OT and and OG in FA or in the following rounds of the draft if Gute goes with 2 Pass Rushers in the 1st Round. O Line has been mostly neglected the past few years and now it has become a glaring position of need. Are there any other 1st Round worthy O Linemen, besides the kid from Bama, in this draft? I see some Badgers' O Linemen available, but they are not 1st Round talent.

If Gute packaged both 1st's to get Ferrell I wouldn't be upset. That said, I think we can bring in UFA's to shore up OLB and use our 1st rounders on other positions. I'd prefer we try and bolster depth, but Ferrell is a game changer IMO.

Leery of another Alabama player like Haha or Lacey.

Yes. Some of the guys that turn out to be average NFL players from Alabama players tend to look better than they are in college because they are surrounded by almost entirely 4-5 star talent that can cover up deficiencies.

Kyler Murray supposedly entering NFL draft.  Hopefully he goes in top 10 so other players drop another spot to us.   Of course there’s that little baseball contract he signed to worry about.
